I brought this up and I listened to the answer.

I am unable, probably because I don't have enough permissions yet, to start a poll or to post in the monthly projects section. So there is the problem of the vote. So, pm me your vote and I will post the winning project

OK then, since there are quite a few new members, such as myself, who I think are missing some great basic stuff for bushcraft, I though these would be appropriate.

Voting on:

  1. Kuska
  2. Wooden spoon

Vote now by PM'ing me and on the 22nd of Jan I will tally the votes.

You have the permission set to post a poll. Not sure what happened. I will make one for you in this one.

I voted Spoon because I want to try making one again. My first one looked nice but not very usable.

This has been such a great turn out. It will be hard for me to announce the results as so many people are responding and the race is so close. Either way, we will all have a great homemade bushcraft tool!

Well, it is now the 22nd of January.

The poll results say kuska. Kuska it is.

Rules: make a kuska. Use any tools you want. This is a pretty big project, lot of material to remove. I can't fault anybody for using power tools on this one. Final judging will be on the 15th of feb.

Ready...set...go!

Ok, my Kuska carving quartet has come together!

ooohh two cherries, very nice gouge. that's my choice for carving tools also though i don't have many.

It's going to be tough for me to find a big enough chunk of green wood to make this. The forests around me are far too muddy to get into right now. I really hope to get a good freeze for a few days so I can go hunting for wood. I need to find an elbow for my Adze project and now a chunk for a Kuska

Here is mine. Really involved process but learned a lot!

The wood is Cottonwood. I tried with pecan but it was extremely hard. I finished it with Tung oil. It cracked a little but I think it is done and it still hold water.

good job, my only criticism is I don't think Tung oil is 'food grade' might send you running for the WC..yknow?
