when I first got into this stuff I was looking for the one knife to do it all ...
as I gained some experience I switched to a combo of tools (which I still use, But there is a part of me that longs for the simple grab and go good for all purposes knife..
so here;s the question.. if you had to pick a do al knife for wilderness skills, and primitive survival what would it be.?

What is BK2 for $1000 Alex.

JAB Kabar Potbelly everyday all day.

It's the knife in the top of this pic. The brilliantly designed handle and the hollow ground blade enable it to excel at the fine tasks and the heavy tasks. The sheath also contributes to it's versatility.

It's at the top of this pic:

Well for me it would have to be of good size. I would rather struggle a little with a big knife trying to do a small knife task, rather than trying to make a small knife perform large knife tasks.
For where I live in Florida I would to say a Turley Grand River Machete:)

That would be my second choice

What's not to love?

More Classic #2. I'll list my reasoning:

A. Size matters - In this case the bigger the worse in my opinion. Carry a knife with a blade over six inches and you draw attention to yourself, and possibly break the law in some states. The Classic #2 is just over four inches. If I can't carry it comfortably in EVERY situation I encounter daily, then it is NOT a survival knife. And I'm not referring to just physical comfort. I'm also referring to the people around me. A huge 14" overall knife is a serious flag for all to see.

B. It takes a beating and keeps on ticking. I've used my Mora for everything. Baton, drill, pry bar and everything else you could think of NOT to do with a knife. Then a little fast sharpen and it cuts my tasty tomatoes for me in the kitchen.

C. Blade - Easy to sharpen, hard to dull. You may not shave with it after a days use...until you sharpen it, then it's shave time again.

D. Tang - I don't like full tangs. Especially full wide tangs that show through my handle. Number one it adds weight, number two I like my handle to be wood, not metal inbetween wood. The tang is long enough to baton anything.

E. Price - OMGZ $12? Really?

F. Surprise factor - Not one person that has asked to borrow my knife has gone without a completely baffled look when I told them "not bad for $12 eh?"

G. It's the closest to a Swedish beauty I'll ever get......

I would have to choose the SOG tech Bowie.
I use a smaller sog knife, the seal pup elite, but in tandem with my gransfors bruks small forest axe. If i had to forgo the axe, i would want a larger knife, and this is the one i would choose.
Sog is a great company that makes top noch production knives of superior quality. I really like my Seal Pup Elite, and this is very much a larger version of it. I do not have much experience with custom knives, and i'm sure there are ones out there i would love, but, based on what i know, i would choose this knife.

It kinda surprises me to say it first, khukuri.
penknife.jpg

Does everything I have asked of it. It's definitely my go to knife. My second choice is slowly shifting between my bark river north star and my GB hunters axe.
The khukri I am using at the moment is a penknife, from HI, it's real easy to sharpen, doesn't really struggle with larger saplings and still works fine for smaller tasks, though I have never tried carving a spoon with it.

3 way tie! BHK Pathfinder, Adventure Sworn Woodlore, BK2. Any of these would serve me pretty well in my area.

Here is a side by side photo of my number one and number two choice if I were forced to only choose one but both would be more than capable as being a one tool option if need be

BK9! Handsdown. Well, I admit it was a toss up between it and the BHK Bushcrafter, but I decided that I'd rather struggle with a big blade on a small project than have a small blade and it not be enough. (which I admit is rare, but still)

One of my kukuries depending where and when. All take down small to big wood [within reason]some do finer work than others, and if needed for defense.
