Well I finally got ahold of the land owners who have the huge acreage behind my parents' house. They said it's more than ok to hike on back there and even have a small little fire if I want. I'll be scouting the area tomorrow since I'm on 3rd shift. I may even put up my game tracker camera if they'll let me. That'll give me a good reason to keep comin back.

Pics to follow tomorrow night. I may take some video but with only my iPhone it can be kinda tricky. I don't have a CLUE what to look for in a good camera

There'll be an interesting find pic for sure. I talked to the owner's daughter and she said it's still out there ;-)

Ok i'll bite. What is?

BTW congrats on finding a new place to explore

I hunted there when I was 12-17 but haven't been out there since. I wanna take a metal detector out there someday. Probably won't find much since it's all open food plots for deer & woods but ya never know!

Sorry man can't tell ya, it's gonna be funny and kind of a "WHAT THE ****" kinda things.

Well the bushcraft gods are smiling upon me. I posted up on the book of faces bout needing more area to explore and the co-owner/operator of the best automobile electronics store in the area messages me & offered up his 40acres for me to explore & camp on.

Also, just whipped up the beginnings of some firestarter discs. Thanks to the generosity of Trevor(gwynn1975) I got some wax in the mail today. I trade him some paracord work for it.

And the view from my thinking spot, also likely to be the spot for my first overnighter when I get more gear.

Found a spot bout 2 miles in where I was tired so I sat down & had some nibble goods lol. Then decided I was gonna make somethin out of a fallen tree. It'll be ready for a tarp when I get one, or thatching in spring once more grass & brush is uncovered.

Some interesting tracks I found....bear? Not sure. Definitely not coon because the claw impressions are very well defined still.

A hollow left by a partially fallen HUGE tree. I could have easily crawled in there & been comfy, which is deceptive because I'm a big dude ad it doesn't look that roomy in the pic.

Very cool place you got yourself Busa.. Can't wait to see the progression of your shelter.

PS: Be careful with that fallen tree. It could possible upright itself while you are under it

Thats pretty nice of the land owners to grant you permission. Regardless of the logging, its always nice to find some scenery. Thanks for the pic's I enjoyed them!

Yeah I'm goin out Saturday to a different lot of 40acres Saturday. Gonna hit Salvation Army & hopefully get a small pot, maybe cook up some lunch. I need practice my feather sticks.

After watching some kuksa videos on YouTube, I really want a crook knife now cuz I get exponentially bored when I don't have a project to do, and now that the trail hawk is done and the sheaths done for it and the Fiskars.... I need somethin to keep me busy. Anyone willing to donate some crappy crook knives? Lol

Looks like you have a great opportunity to do some bushcrafting in a beautiful area. Very nice of the owners to let you use their place. Will they be OK with a more "permanent" shelter and fires?
Thanks for the nice pics, and keep us posted on the progress of your 'scraftin' area.

One thing you can do for the owners is keep an eye out for broken fences, trash, and trespassers/ poachers. Doing a little clean up and reporting problems can make you very welcome. :)

I was actually keeping an eye out for trash n such but found nothing on the last trip.

I asked them already about a "natural materials shelter" as well as a small fire and they sad that is fine as long as no live trees are cut down for the purpose. Due to the NUMEROUS tree tops they've left throughout the woods, that won't be a concern.

I'll be goin to a new place on 40+acres Saturday for a lil exploring and lunch. Gonna stop out to surplus and get a shovel/pic just I'm case I'm in nature when it calls haha. I'm pretty pumped about checkin this place out

I am jealous, I got a little section of public trail that is barely used close to me. no fires. However I hit the mother load on some fatwood today. Fires in the back yard. Looks nice and peaceful. Put your package in the mail yesterday.
