Pyro=Greek for fire. That is exactly what our very own Petrifiedwood fire steel does. I got mine today in the mail and had to play with it right away. First was the steel as in flint and steel. I grabbed a spall of flint and a bit of charcloth and on the third wack, thar be glowing coal! Next I used both the chisel tip and the side with the 20 degree edge to shave some nice fatwood curls and crumbly's. This of course led to the final phase of the review. I got out a ferro rod and with the first scrape there was a shower of sparks. The fatwood ignited on the second try. I am impressed. I think there are some other uses for this tool. Time will tell. This is going to be my go to tool for fire making. I have a steel that I recently won but I'll reserve that one for when I give class's to the church kids. Here's to a job very well done, Petrifiedwood! Its worth every penny.

Do you think it would serve well as a knife hone ? Looks about big enough.

I have one of these as well! I am very impressed with it!

I have purchased several items from Petrifiedwood and all have been of the highest quality and craftsmanship at an affordable price. He puts out a fine piece of equipment no matter what the item!

To top it off.........this striker is just so damn cool! I love it!

I have a bunch of old knives like Schrade, Colonial, Imperial and some stainless blades. I tried the "P" on them and, yes, by golly, it works just fine! On some of the stainless, like Victorinox, it took a few more swipes but it brought out a razor edge. The thing with any hone or steel like this is to take it easy and not get carried away. Just lite pressure will do wonders and not mess up an edge. I had a piece of "ball bearing" steel shaped like a rectangle that a fellow gave me for a steel and that thing was awesome but it was so hard that it rang if you tapped it. It would take off a big curl of knife blade if you weren't careful and used too much pressure.

Ok, enough guys...I really need one of these now!

...yeah thanks...one more really cool indispensable bit of kit I need to save up for...thanks.
:D

On a side note: PW thanks for that firesteel vid you did about this striker...I have a couple firesteel, a light my fire and another one that doesnt spark as well as the lmf...now I know why and more of how to use it right! mischmetal, is that right?
