Finally got around to finishing these. Special thanks to Mississippi Rob for sending me the pattern. I'm pretty happy with these now that they are done. They fit really well. BUT...These were such a PITA that I don't think I'll ever make another pair. I used some heavy upholstery leather which could be why these were so difficult to make. I wanted to use some leather that wouldn't wear out quickly and this seemed to fit the bill. Cost was another thing. Deerskin ain't cheep and this stuff was.

Really nice. Lotta work. You'll be stylin' at the voo.:4:

Those are cool. How do they feel? I am going to make a pair very similar to those soon. I made my wife a pair of center seam Mocs for Christmas this year.

Nice! Very nice. I had a pair my mom bought me way back when I was about 12. Funny, the kids at school thought I was such a freak. Maybe I was but they were way cool to me.

Awesome. I made my 1st pair out of heavy deerskin suede and wear them mostly around the house as slippers. Here is a shot of mine one day I wore them to/at work. :)

I love the look of them, you did a great job on those!
Here is a couple links for ideas on soles for them to help them last. the first is using the rubber coating for tool handles, not sure how that would work and the other is using ground tire rubber and barge cement. The link tells about it and he does sell it on his site. Now if anyone here knows where a tire retreader is and can get the rubber. I haven't tried either of these on my mocs yet they are rawhide bottoms and still are breaking in.

What are longs?

Alafia Rendezvous. Hushnel goes every year and it sounds like a good portion of the Florida group here is going to pay him and his wife a visit on the public days. Should be pretty awesome.

thats down near my old stomping grounds, I Miss Florida.
Especially now that its winter up here in Michigan.
Have a great time and get some pictures :)

How do mocs like these wear? Is it like walking around barefoot? Do you add any kind of sole or insole?

These particular ones are of a heavier leather than say buck or elk skin. There is a leather sole on the inside of the same thickness. I've thought about gluing a heavier leather sole on the outside but am undecided right now. They kinda wear like light boots. If I walked around on rocks and stuff I'm sure I'd feel it though.

I had made a pair of these around 25 years ago and loved them. Was real nice for bowhunting from the ground since they make you slow down and feel with your feet. Enjoy them and someday I will have to make me a pattern for some new ones. Tandy's patterns don't go big enough for me.
