My wife had carpal tunnel surgery 4 years ago.

She sheared the wool, cleaned it, made it into rovings, dyed it, spun it into yarn and knit me this hat and scarf from it for Christmas. And she knocked those off as an afterthought. Not even her best work.

How's that for fine motor skills? I'd show you some of her bead work and such, but you get the idea.

Not to say you'll have the same results as her, but you may.

I have had surgery to both hands. Not a worry at all. Greatest thing that I ever did for myself. My fine motor skills are just as good as it used to be.

Just make sure you pick a good surgeon.

all i can say is a friend of mine had it done to both hands at the same time, her husband didn't like wiping her back side.

Had it done about 8 years ago, no problem at all. X2 on the "good surgeon" part. i was told to look for a "sports Doctor".

I had it done on both hands. Any loss of motor skills (and there is some) was damage done to the nerves by waiting too long to have the surgery done.

Wow great stuff!!! She is a TALENTED woman!!!

I was told after a car accident that I would need a similar surgery, arthroscopic wrist surgery but the doctor told me I should put it off as long as possible for three reasons.
may or may not relieve any pain or gain any strength or use
May make it less usefull
As I'm still relatively young there may be more effective techniques in the near future, but that was 4 or 5 years ago and I haven't heard of any.

Good luck.

Don't sweat it. I had both hands done. Finally broke and did it because I was loosing the fine motor skills. I kept dropping things for no reason. Have the surgery and follow all the doctor's recommendations after and you should do just fine.
