After church today, the bushcraftlets were begging me to take them sledding. My father in law has a few decent hills at his property, so I loaded up a my new Hungarian shoulder bag to give it a quick test. This is a nicely sized, rugged bag, and the straps make it nice to tether an emergency and wool blanket to the bottom.
I am a fan of exterior pockets, and this one has 3 nicely placed.
Left pocket holds a compass pouch with some various drinks, and a small first aid kit. Center exterior pocket hold a multi-tool and pocket shovel, and the right exterior pocket is the perfect size for an altoid tin....which this one is contains one of many fire kits.
Solid stitching and the leather straps and studs are also very solid.
For a shoulder bag...it holds just a bit more than the Finish gas mask bag. I can see this one being a very reliable single day/afternoon back. Planned on some coffee, beans and venison summer sausage for lunch.
Ran a few runs with the kids down the sledding hill, then it was time for this old man to go relax! Fire prep first. Some cat tail fluff and reed material, and some grape vine bark. Flint & steel, a bit of charcloth, and used a small chunk of chaga to keep the ember going.
It wasn't long and my son wanted to come investigate. He was very intrigued by the cat tails.
He really liked how it would hold an ember.
Then some snow on to melt for coffee.
A delicious hazelnut brew
I wasn't super hungry so decided to forgo the beans and just heat up a few hunks of delicious venison protein!
Although it was a quick one, it was a great outing. Love spending time with the little ones. Thanks for looking.
