I placed an order for a ribz yesterday and I've been anticipating and preparing the things I'll want to have with me while out cross country skiing, snow shoeing, In the summer - kayaking or hiking.

If you have a ribz or waiting for yours to arrive, what is your loadout?
feel free to comment on mine, I'm looking to trim it down as I'm not entirely sure all of this will fit, but am pretty comfy with the weight so far as I already carry these items in my maxped sabercat. hopefully wont have to sacrifice too much.

ESEE-4
Leatherman Wave
Ezlap diamond round sharpener in aluminum handle
25' paracord
Aquamira Frontier Pro
2x 4mil garbage bags
Space blanket
Brunton classic mini compass
Jetscream whistle
Strike force
Vas cottonballs
Camera
Mechanix commercial grade impact pro gloves
Ductape
Homemade Trailmix: m&m, peanuts, cashews, dried raisins, jerky
First aid kit: Adventure Medical kit Ultralight Watertight .3
Lip balm

Yes I also have a metal container to boil in but I doubt it will fit in my ribz, in any case 32oz Klean kanteen on biner attached to my belt.

Last time I used mine it was full of turkey calls, lunch, hand warmers, a book, hand cleaning thingies, probably a few more times......used it for extra needs while turkey hunting, hauling stuff in and out of the blind. While useful I haven't used my Ribz in a full time kinda of manner.

I ordered one from the year end sale and got it in the mail quickler than most things get here. I have not loaded it out yet, but plan on using mine as a ditch kit as I do a lot of time in a canoe. Probably mostly fire and shelter stuff, maybe something to make tea or soup in to help warm up. I will have to go though my stuff and see what fits and feels right. Tom.

I actually just received a few pairs to test about a week ago, and took them out this week to test. I took the Ultralite model, and kept the following in it:

LEFT SIDE:
-Map
-Fire kit
-Compass
-Gloves
-Multitool

RIGHT SIDE:
-space blanket
-signal mirror
-winter hat
-water tabs
-Headlamp

I was surprised at how comfortable they were with a pack, and how much i enjoyed not having all of the aforementioned items in my cargo pockets on my pants. It was much more comfortable, all around. I was impressed. Initial review and pics will be up soon.

Sounds good, mine is a ditch kit as well, I saw a video of the ribz submerged under water with loose paper tissue in the pockets, and they remained dry, reason why I purchased it.

Also the list I got going seem to be a lot, but really if you think about it, it's not.
Actually I think I may have plenty of room left over for other stuff, just want to keep it as ultralight as can be.

Also, having my ribz as my main goto on hikes/ overnights, will allow me to gain more space in my rucksack for shelter/bedding/food. It's silly but the front pocket of my condor pack loaded up, reduces space in the main compartment. I'd be able to pack an ultralight sleeping bag, that normally I wouldn't bring because of lack of space. something handy if the wool blanket doesn't suffice.

all this talk about the ribs has me so stoked. :54:

Good idea for a thread, I just ordered a set too so I'm interested in seeing how folks use theirs. I was planning to use mine to carry a few essentials much like dark11crusader's list above. Basically stuff that would otherwise be in my cargo pockets like a compass, PSK, etc.

Thanks a lot for this. I think it's going to be a keeper for sure. The sale is definitely what grabbed my attention, I've been eyeing this piece of kit for more then 6 months now.

I hear ya on having your cargo pockets full, normally I just keep my gloves in one, and paracord in the other, I find if you load them up too much, it becomes a nuisance. Which also brings me to snow pants. I often wear them when out in winter, sometimes the light ones when cross country skiing. I definitely couldn't have access to my cargos in such a situation. +1 to ribz again. bah I'm in love.:8:

Right on! c'mon folks lets hear 'em.. I know there's more ribz out there.

The signal mirror is a great idea, especially while kayaking, If stranded I doubt motor boats will hear my jetscream + it wont take up much more space

Space Blanket the small one will fit with no problem
A Aluminum Bread loaf pan {the throw away type} will fold up and fit.
A platypus 1 liter bag with their drinking adapter hose will fit, just put it upright in one of the pockets.
If you have a GI compass pouch attach it to one of the shoulder straps and put your compass in it easier to get to on the move.
One of Rays buds filled his with rocks when testing used it as a Dive Belt
If you come up with Ideas on Mods send the feed back to Ray as he really wants the input.
PS:In the zero hours and you have to take a dump keep some TP and hand cleaner in it, sling it over the shoulder and go do your job it won't get in the way And if you get turned around you have Gear with you! Grab and Go!
add a Cheap poncho takes up small space wet is Bad News. I know you have the the GB have you tried them out in the rain...
