Whats this guy do when he needs a part for a tripod he bought at Salvation Army? He uses Play-Doh and epoxy to mold and cast the piece! Redneck engineering! We'll see how it turns out this afternoon when I wake up. Just got out of work & the idea hit me.

You might need a filler in the epoxy - wood fibers for example. Even cotton might work - just something to reinforce the epoxy.

You can get Marinetex 2 part epoxy from your local boat supply store. It has a steel filled version available that I have drilled and tapped in the past and that has held up well for light duty applications. For what it's worth, I use Marinetex for bedding rifles and it works well for that purpose.

That's awesome, I am always frustrated when you have small plastic parts that fail and of course, you can't replace them

Let us know how it works!

Go to the auto parts store and get some fiberglass fabric and resin.. Pour in some resin, poke it full of the fiberglass weave, and top off with more resin. When it dries, pop it oud and sand down the back of it and it should be sturdy enough.

JB weld turned out well.

Yeah, I have used the polyester resin for casting small R/C parts. You can coat a bolts thread with a little Vaseline and after it cures unscrew it leaving a nice threaded hole. Cheap to for some quick to make parts.

I would use plumbers epoxy, it's more of a clay consistency but hardens to almost metal, it can be drilled and tapped of need be. I use it all the time the stuff is awesome
