I just picked up a small canvas bag from my local military surplus store, and I wanted to share some pictures with other forum members, and hear your thought and suggestions. This bag is small enough that it will fit into the messenger bag that I take with me daily to work, so I will essentially always have it on hand. The dimensions of the bag are as follows: 6"x6"x2", and is made from canvas. The shoulder strap that you see was included with the bag. I am very new to the field of bushcraft, so the items you see in the photos will be changing as my knowledge evolves, but all in all, I don't think it is a bad start.

The main bag includes:
Leatherman Blast
Case Sodbuster
Silva compass
Strikeforce ferro rod and dry tinder (in handle)
waxed twine
canvas needle
6' paracord
titanium spork (Snow Creek)
fresnel lens
stainless Zebra ink pen with Fisher Space pen refill

Med Kit 1 contains:
Imodium (8)
Benadryl (diphenhydramine) (6)
Ibuprofen (4)
ASA (aspirin) (2)

Med kit 2 contains:
non sterile 1"x1" cotton dressings
alcohol prep wipes
triple anti biotic gel
basic band aids
lip balm

The alcohol preps, anti biotic ointment, and lip bal can all be used as emergency fire starters.

I'm a paramedic, so on longer hikes and campouts in which I have my vehicle, I will also have access to my medical bag and more wound care supplies.

Thanks for looking!

Some starts may be slower than others, but all starts are starts in the right direction! looks like a decent little kit.

I have a large canvas ruksack that I also purchased at the military surplus store as well. It holds my wool blanket, tarp, cook kit, stainless bottle and cup, large flashlight, etc. For my edged tools I have added a BHK Western Drover (pictures to follow), and a Wetterlings large hunters axe (pictures also to follow) What I like most about the small canvas bag is that I can drop it into my large pack and not have to shuffle the whole pack around.

Once again, thanks for all the imput.

I very much like the idea of 2 different (coloured) medkits, too, but what I like most is you mentioning a small AND a large canvas pack and top it with a wool blanket!! :32:

Seriously though; that small pack looks very handy indeed, but it's not milsurp, is it? It sure is small enough to be caried on a walk, inside a daypack or inside the rucksack.

I believe the pack was made in India, so I'm not sure if it is actual military surplus or not, but I think it will make a great addition to my kit. In addition to the shoulder strap, it also has belt loops on the back side. There is also a small zippered section inside the pack.
