Some Positive thoughts for a friend

Let me start this out with the fact that I am not highly religious, but I do believe in the power of positive thinking.

Last year, before I joined this forum, a girl in my class was diagnosed with a Brain Tumor, her name is Mary Lapinski. She's been fighting it ever since. I had one class with her years ago, and this news has shocked me ever since.

It's one of those things that you can't believe are real, and I honestly still can't believe it. She is just one of the nicest people that I know, and it just bothers me deep down that this happened to her.

So what I'm asking is for some smoke to blow in her direction.

i don't actually write in this category very often... i usually just 'thank' the poster, meaning 'ok, got it, smoke and prayer sent'... this one hit me a little differently.

Kilroy, i'm guessing you're still pretty young. never confuse "religion" with belief in a god, spirituality, or, as you put it, belief in the power of positive thinking. some of the most moral people i've known have been avowed atheists, lapsed catholics, pagan, or "nothing"... i wish i'd learned that earlier in life. another thing is that, at least in my world, my god gave us all free will... the 'system' doesn't work without it, but it also frees the bad folks to do their evil, and prevents him from stepping in every time someone gets sick, a child dies, a dog gets run over by a car, or some thug commits a crime... so, the bad things just happen, which makes our doing something good that much more special... we do it because we CAN, not because we HAVE to... bad people get that choice too, but choose to do evil... if no one could do what they wanted, but could only do what their god wanted them to, we'd be slaves, not people. "when bad things happen to good people", by a guy named Kushner, is a pretty good book, if you ever get curious... basically explains what i just said, but better.
