any of you folks had the lovely experience of shooting these..:56:

the vast majority of the big 3-d shoots we attend, have at least one steel target, with the vitals cut out, on one of the courses.. if you don't hit the cut out, which usually has foam, say bye to your arrows..

they can be a lot of fun, but most the time they destroy your arrows.. we usually take a few old/junkier arrows, specifically for the steel targets..
they are usually worth double the points of you hit the mark.. they sometimes will give you a second target to shoot at, in case you dont want to break any arrows..

this is the same target/shoot, different years.. check out all those broken guys.

Gota love it!!! One of the shoots I go to has the metal target on one range, a 300 yard "Buffalo" shot (it's across a pond and 1/2 way up a wooded hill on the other side), a 100 yard "Gator" shot (also in a pond) and then the moving duck target. These last three are money shots...typically 3 shots for $5.00 on the duck, 3 shots for $10.00 on the Buffalo and Gator.

A range I used to go to had a running bet... Your first arrow out of the bow that day through the steel target and you'd get half dozen arrows for free. The cut out was the size of mandarin orange. It was a great ploy to sell arrows.

Yep! We have several steel deer and a few smaller steel animals here in Indiana! Love that first picture! 3D season will be here soon!

Awhile back Traditional Bowhunter Magazine had a story in about a group in Europe, Bavaria I think. Their shoot has 3D targets with metal plate hidden inside. They are "no shoot" scenarios. If you hit...."klang", trashed arrow. Their scoring system is interesting
-20 pts for a no shoot and -5 for a wound outside of the vitals. Can remember the vital scoring. Those guys are pretty serious about wounding as they have been lobbying to get Bowhunting legalized there.

fairly regular at various trad shoots I go to, one year at our clubs big shoot we had a whole shooting line of steel targets, start out with the largest hole work your way down to the smallest about small orange sized, one arrow....folks that make it through the whole thing were put in the hat for a nice knife......I remember the guy who won it,,,,,,he went through several times....never broke an arrow.... we also put out some steel plates and concrete animals in some "no shoot" situations....no one ever seems to complain.....
