Played around with fatwood this morning using small shavings and a firesteel. I used an older piece of fatwood that Nick gave me and then a piece of fresh cut stuff. Both burned equally well, the older piece did not smell as strong but they both worked the same.
I found the small shavings worked best and I needed lots of sparks along with good spark placement to get ignition. This was a fun learning exercise for me and good practice with both my knife and firesteel.
