I just ordered a Svord Peasant Knife from......right here at BCUSA. It looked like a great general purpose knife, easy to open, and well made. Usually I like to personally examine things like knives and guns before I buy them, but the low price, the design and especially the reputation of this site, sold me on it. So do any of you guys have one? If you do how do you like it. Can't wait to get mine.

I bought one last spring, a little time with some sandpaper to clean up/convex the edge and made a new set of handles out of some woven bamboo flooring.

It is by far may favorite pocket knife. I carry it every day. It does everything from open boxes to skin deer. I put a lanyard on it which makes it really easy and cormfortable to carry. I tuck the lanyard under my belt which keeps the knife even with the top of my pocket and keeps it closed.

I have seen good reviews on this knife .. But, as I have never actually seen/touched one, maybe I just don't "get it"?
With the long "tail/tang?" it looks like it would be difficult to EDC or use 'typically' in a sheath??
What am I missing?
Thnx
Joe

I've been EDCing one for the past year and a half.
It's my most used knife, and my favorite pocketknife.

That's cool as hell!

I've been carrying one now since last February. Went with the black plastic and I LOVE IT!!! It's been an awesome knife!

I am getting more and more interested in getting one of these knives.
... and, For the price .. No way to go wrong .. heh!

Can someone please throw out some information - pics? - as to how this is actually carried (I still kinda "don't Get It")

I don't have any pictures, may be able to take some tommorrow. Putting a lanyard through the hole in the tang was the key for me to be able to carry it. I tuck the lanyard between my belt and my pants. The knife is my side pants pocket, but hanging from my belt by the lanyard. The lanyard keeps the knife straight up and down in my pocket. It works pretty much like the fob on a pocket watch.

ive been using this knife for a long time and im impressed buy the quality of the steel . the handles are relatively easy to replace with something a bit fancier, and i carry mine in a belt sheath or a simple rawhide sheath in my pocket . they are great value for the money as long as you dont mind the simplicity of the design

I have one. I also have a CKC hiker which is basically the fixed blade version.

They take a razor edge and hold it very well. I like the peasant because its so easy maintenance for a folder and making your own custom wood scales is super easy as well.

I found it strange to carry at first, the mentioned extended-tang being quite alien to me and my usual methods of carry.
After spending some time with it you simply adapt to it's unique design, and loose fitting jeans and deep pockets help a lot :D

I really like my Peasant, there's beauty in it's simplicity. The steel alone is superb, better than many fixed blades I own.
I also take comfort in knowing that I can easily use the extended tang to affix an impromptu handle in the woods, should the handles ever break.

I got one in a trade and did not like it. Just to bulky in the pocket, would rather carry a small fixed blade. Got rid of mine in a trade.

I ordered one from our awesome Outfitter (thanks Faol!) and should be waiting for me when I get home today. I can't wait to try my hand at it. I've been thinking about different carry methods and looking at the sheathes folks have made, but without having it in my hand, I just don't know. I'll post up whatever I end up finding that works for me.

Haven't read all of this but that "wood burner" Peasant came out great. I have an orange one and really like it, I've only used it for sharpening pencils and little jobs but I think the design is really neat.

I have the orange plastic handled one. I do slide a ranger band made from a road bike inner tube over the tang to keep it from possibly closing when I didn't want it to.

I like that. Did you reshape the handle? It looks different than mine, or the others I've seen.

You know what - I can't honestly remember. I know I always sand down things like this immediately and change the colour but not sure if I cleaned up the ends and thinned the belly or not - I guess I would have to see another to be sure -I must be getting old

I have sent about 20% of these knives to Australia. It seems that even though they are made in New Zealand, the stock is low in Oz, and the price is over double what I charge. I sent 4 in a small flat rate box to someone down there a couple of months ago. They received four for the price of two, even with shipping cost included.

MtnManJoe, we carry the belt sheath for them now. It is an open top soft sheath.

I got my Svord Peasant Knife today. Thanks BCUSA Outfitters for the quick delivery. The one I got was sharp enough to shave hair off my arm. It might need a very very little touching up, but I have no complaints about it's sharpness at all. It's bigger than I had expected, which is a good thing, and what really surprised me was how lightweight it is. The design is even better in person. I like the way the tang sort of wedges between the scales to hold it firmly open. I had wondered how it would work out, with no locking device. The end of the scales will need a very slight sanding to smooth them out. Overall I'd rate this knife as excellent. Like I said it's larger than I had envisioned, but it's so lightweight you'd hardly know it was in your pocket. I like it.
