I haven't tried these yet, but I figured someone else might be interested. I'd really be interested in knowing if they are actually as good looking as the ones pictured.

It'd be nice to see an aerial view looking down on the top to see how narrow the wedge shape is. They look nice though and the price is right.

I knew this would happen, i get impatient and order a mediocre axe and then something like this comes along lol, pretty sweet looking axe, i didn't even know Swiss army made axes.

Sportsmans guide has the larger splitting axe. I had one but I ended up selling it, I was going to remove the short handle and put it on a longer one but never got around to it and decided to sell it. They don't come that shiny but they aren't in bad shape, needs sharpening for sure.

These are not Victorinox, but vintage Swiss military axes from what I can tell reading the website description.

They sure look neat!

Those look handsome. I think you should pull the trigger, DerHoss, and do a review for us.

Very high quality tools. The big one is along the lines of a miner's axe, big heavy head on a relatively short but massive haft. The smaller one is a hatchet.

These are really designed for splitting wood, not for chopping.

The metal finishing on these is the best I've seen on any "factory" axe. I don't know what difference it makes functionally, but the Swiss take the little details seriously. Less of a chance for head corrosion, probably.

For someone looking for a dedicated splitter, the bigger one is a once in a lifetime deal... much nicer than the Wetterlings or even the Gransfors splitters.

Did I mention that they are massive?

BTW, they are available also from Sportsman's Guide and Swisslink for less.

Here's the Sportmansguide link and at $29.97 they are considerably cheaper than the original source.

And cheaper yet at Swiss Link at $26.99.

They also sell the Swiss Kindling Axe for $19.99, but they're listed as out of stock.

i hate to bring up an old thread, but I bought one of the larger axes pictured in the OP from Sportsman Guide before finding this thread. This thing is a BEAST.

It just came yesterday and all i've done so far is strip the red pant and put a quick edge on it. The head shape is unusual, you could say.

I only got to swing it a few times due to an impending thunderstorm. It really needs to be on a longer haft, I think, but the eye is so wide, I don't think a standard haft will fit. In it's current form, it doesn't appear to chop OR split that well and it is HEAVY. But hey, I have a 2X72 grinder. :)

I'll play around with it some and see how it goes.
