This may not belong here but, it is something I feel I need to say. I don't post much here simply because I haven't purchased a membership yet and don't want to feel i'm taking advantage of the knowledge and community here. I have never been on another forum that has felt more like an extended family and more willing to help one another than this one. I saw the amount of selfless charity for numerous members who needed help here and even the collections for Fort Forgotten 2 people who we have never met. That is not something commonly seen amongst friends who have known each other a long time let alone on an online community.

I wake up start my coffee and get on BCUSA, that is my morning routine, and if I skip the second part my day get duldrum.. This place has come to mean a lot to me. I initially found this place because a friend told me about it. When I signed up I was another tacti-cool tacti-fool thinking I needed to be all high speed low drag to get by in the woods. Thanks to the community here I have done a complete 180. Instead of going into the woods and feeling like I have to put up security and be on alert for an imaginary situation, now I go out and relax by a simple fire, in fact out there is the most relaxed I get and I also feel a "connection" to the others who share this desire to learn and explore.

Sorry for the long winded thank you. I just wanted to express how much I appreciate the community and comraderie (sp) here.

Thank you
Anthony

Yeah, this place just has so darn much plain old common sense and knowledge, it changes a lot of our perceptions and needs.

And, please, do not feel like you have to be a supporter to fully participate. That just isn't so. Step up, speak out, and get in the middle of things.

The supporter members are much appreciated, but if they were the only ones participating actively, this place would become a ghost town. :)

No one should ever feel the need to be a supporter to post, ask a question, or offer advice. Since the beginning we have been saying the same thing over and over, "As always, knowledge is free". We will NEVER prevent members with free registration from accessing the critical areas of the site. As a matter of fact the only extra place supporters can see is the supporters forum which is mostly a social group and off topic forum with the occasional pass around or giveaway.

To answer the previous poster's question the supporting membership money is used to fund the site and keep it growing (ie. servers, support, maintenance, upgrades, etc). It is the sole reason we don't have any banner ads plastered all over the forum like most other places.

I understand totally what you are saying. I have always liked the woods but I was intimidated by it because I didn't understand it. The only people I saw were either hunters who came to conquer, survivalists planning for the big one or backpackers who were Leave No Trace fanatics. I have nothing against their mindsets but it didn't match my bent. This place does. I have learned more in the last few months about woodcraft and outdoor living than in the rest of my life. I can now live with the outdoor instead of feeling like I need to conquer it. Anyway, a long winded amen to your thank you.

Nicely put.

You may not think you add anything but you do add to the "spirit" that makes this place so special.

This is how I start my day too. I 've only been on since last Oct and never introduced myself due to- I don't know why. A old friend of mine once told me that people are either takers or givers in life. I've found that all of you on this forum are givers. Someone needs help and there you are with donations or knowledge and you don't expect something in return. There's not a day that goes by that I don't learn something new. Just needed to agree. Thanks Cahlan

I am having my tea as I'm reading this thread. Since I got laid off in December I've been able to enjoy my morning tea and read the forum. The days that I get a little bummed it encourages me to either get my backside off the couch and hit the woods or to make some new gear. This place is full of cool guys with alot of skills.
