We test the insulated bakers tent with wood burner .
First carry out the tent proper with a 106 pound tobbogan .
Wanted more snow but running out of time before the camp out .
Does not tow too bad even on frozen leaves . Mud would be a pain though .

Built an extra throw away tobbogan for the insulation . Lots of volume not much weight . 32 pounds with shovel . Assemble optional poles . These are necessary if on state land or no saplings available .

Late start in the afternoon . Ready at my command ...... camp

Lay out the tarp and then feed through the main insulation .

Making progress but dark is fast approaching .

Lay out the wood burner for assembly .

Gathered sticks and small test person to check for warmth .

All in all about 3 to 4 hours to fire in the hearth .

Are you going to be living in that for 20 days straight?
Now that's cool!!

Allright , put about a 5 inch diamater Elm log in the burner at 11 pm . Hopefully I can drag out of bed before 8 am (still sleeping in the house for now)to see if I have hot coals which is my goal . Cut back the inlet air pretty hard so hopefully itll make it .

Great Pics and Sounds Like a Great 20 Days! Love the tobbogan. Thanks for sharing the few days so far!

ODM ,
No I'm not but I hope to leave it up for 20 days to see how it stands up to snow load etc . I will spend the night off and on .
I have taken it down now to address some issues .
1 . Need another 10 foot crossbar on the front to help hold the woodburner vestibule .
2. Have to have a much better entry then undoing the side panel over and over .
3. Have to seal up the side panels better ( see number 2)
4. Need much longer and stouter stakes for high winds and ground not frozen . If possible of course you could tie off to surrounding trees , but Im trying not to do that for test reasons .

Will post pics of upcoming camp out / rendevous sponsored by Michigan Guys .

Packing up the whole shebang in the mini van to take to MIDVIMs rendevous .
Unfortunately no snow I bet . We still have snow here in the shade but fading fast .

LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING THIS THING TOMORROW!

I have taken the day off so I can be there earlier than posted before. I should be there by 1300 hrs (1pm) Call me when you're close. I can help you set it up.

Ok , Drug it all up to LFBs rendevous . LFB helped me set it up . Still about 3 hours to fire in the hearth . LFB came back and took my photo enjoying the fire .(I left the right side off for photo op ) This wood burner after draft is established can be opened up and used as a fire place which I like .

Here is the door I added . You simply roll it up . Much better this way .

Here are the Bushcrafters at LFBs outing .
Lsft to right LFB, Three Fires, Looker and meh .
It looks like my pants are quite dirty , but thats pancake flour . 3fires brought a bunch of his delicious Maple syrup and we had to make pancakes on top of the wood burner which can be used as a griddle .

It was ok to gather dead wood and I found a Red Cedar tree . This wood is so aromatic when burning it's almost like incense . I used LFBs new bushcrafter saw which is the next best thing to a Stihl . Matter of fact I had it at my hooch so much most of the guys thought it was mine I think .

Looker is without a doubt the master of paracord . He can braid anything .
Somebody in Afganistan dared him to make a thong and I talked him into modeling it for me . Check out the tutorial on making a paracord dogleash . It's so much more then just a leash with about 2000 pound breaking point .

Well all good things must come to an end so the Michigan guys broke camp at about 2 pm . It took them about a half hour . They offered to help break down the hooch , but I just wanted to take my time . So before I know its sunset .

And then , leaving the park this most beautiful moonrise . See what you miss you ultra lighters .

Thanks for posting the pics brother, I never took any! That's a great shelter you built. It was great to meet you guys, and I look forward to the next time.

My wife just shook her head when she saw the thong. She never thought she'd see it posted on a public forum! I want to make it clear to everyone that the picture of me is the closest that thong has ever come to being "modeled"!

Joe.

How is that stove working out?

WW the stove work great . I put an Oak log in there Fri. night at 2 AM and at 7 AM had a nice bed of coals . Just threw on some 1 inch sticks and had a nice fire to warm the hooch .
The next night I tried the same with the Red Cedar and barely had any coals at all after 4 hours .
I should say the Oak I picked up off the ground so it was a smoulder er and the Cedar was quite dry .
I brought along some really dry elm to get things going .
When 3 Fires brought his Maple Syrup and handed bottles out to everyone I just had to try the griddle top on the stove . Took a few burnt pancakes to get the hang of it but after getting a pile of 1/2 inch sticks to add slowly to the coals I learned how to adjust the heat pretty well .
I love the fire place aspect of this burner since you can play with the fire roast vienna sausages on a stick and you would not beliieve the radiant heat that comes off that fire when you open the door . Actually once I started the fire on Fri. night I kept a fire in the hearth until Sun afternoon continuoulsly .

OK thats the positives . As you know the burner weighs a ton and although it doesn't take too long to put together the stack is a PITA .
The same with the hooch of course . If you were setting up a deer camp or permanent type camp on your own land it's fine . To use it for a weekend camp doesn't make a lot of sense since you are dedicateing 6 to 8 hours to putting everything together .
I'm working now on a redesign of the burner .This time I'm going to use much lighter gauge stainless and simplify the design . I will still use the wide rectangular door just because I like a fire place . Also the griddle top will be part of the new one . The stack I'm going to taper and just nest each section inside the other and then just stack em and let gravity hold em together .
I think the stove will just be a permanent box about 12 X 13 X 22 and the nested stack will all fit inside the stove . This probabley still won't work for backpackers , but won't take up so much room on a toboggen . Should be able to assemble in under 10 minutes I hope .

It is so cool to see what everbody else is doing . It's also kind of humbling because you see how all the other guys seem to have everything so together .
LFB has his gear so streamlined and has so much knowledge it's scary .
He and his group do this once a MONTH . Just think .
It was great of you to bring the anvil for 3 Fires I know he was really looking forward to that .
After attempting to make Maple syrup last year and ending up with about a pint after a ton of work I know how valuble this stuff is and here comes 3 Fires passing out syrup like it's water to all the guys .
The generosity of the bushcrafters is just astounding .

I agree. That's why I was hapy to share what I had, people here have been very generous to me and I am always on the lookout for a chance to pay it forward.
