Thoughts on this Pack

hey wiskie,
i have no personal experience other than a quick look at my buddy's. he, however swears by it. he loves the way it breaks down so he doesnt have to carry the whole thing on short outings. i believe the two "rocket" packs on the side zip together to mak a bag, so its like three in one. he has had it for two years plus of hard use and says no significant damage. just a bit of cosmetic wear. he said the yoke system takes a short time to get used to but otherwise no complaints. hope this helps.

Run a search here on the forums and you should turn up a few reviews.

I'm not so sure I'd like the zip off pouch idea as zippers can fail. However I've seen nothing but good reviews of this packs durability.

I've got one and personally doesn't fit me well. 6 foot 185lbs.

Honestly its one of those things where when I think about it I hate that thing. Not really the packs fault though. Just under full load its brutal.

Maybe them redcoats are shorter than us 'mericans?

Edit: The rockets zip and also clip onto the main pack, or the yoke they sell seperate to make the smaller day pack. Actually works pretty well. The clips are what is really supporting the weight of the "rockets", the zips basically just keep them from flopping all over the place and easier separation than military webbing would allow.

I've heard good things about them, personally though if I were going to plunk down that much I'd get a modern backpacking bag.

Looks like it would be very versatile for many uses with the detachable side bags. I don't know if I'd spend that much on one though. There's some cheaper options that offer this same design.

Looks like a pretty good pack. So long as it holds what you need it to, and its durable enough for the kinds of trips you're taking, it should work fine.

I wouldnt design a pack with zippers at all, because i think they are bulky, extra weight, and if they break they cant be repaired in the field. But, if you dont have a problem with that, then i think you would be happy with that pack.

I like the modular design, and the flat subdued color as well.

I posted my unpleasant experience with this pack on here ( somewhere ). You need to watch out to how they have stitched the shoulder straps to the bag. Really poor execution IMO.

If you do go ahead and get the bag then I would suggest you have this location reinforced. The straps failed on mine and the bag was never loaded above 40 lbs and rarely above 35. It took a fair bit of whining on my part and some embarrassing online photos to get the importer to step up and replace the bag.

I found the rocket system worked well enough with the yokes but I only used that feature on one occasion. The show stopper for many folk is that this bag offers no adjustment for torso height. This bag will either fit you or it won't.

Jason (formerly Koa) has one of these and uses it all the time. He doesn't make videos, so you will not see a review, but maybe he will chime in here if he sees the thread.
