Yeah I know it's a company that makes courier bags(darn good ones) and lots of just ridiculousness when it comes to accessories now...I have a large courier bag got on close out and the thing has been bomb proof, and I've owned a lot of bike oriented bags.

Anyway I came across this last month and was kinda on the fence, but I've been looking for a portage style rig and got a coupon code so pulled the trigger on one tonite.

While not exactly what I wanted, it looks big enough and has plenty space where I think I can add some lashing points. I 'm not too pouch crazy/tacticool anymore, just want a sturdy plain bag

Got 20% off. Some reviews will follow upon getting it.

congrats - it looks like it'd be at home in the woods and you know Timbuk2 makes great bike bags.

no doubt it will bombproof and that's a great price.

Looks like a great bike bag. What kind of stuff are you planning to put in it???

Big box of beer ;).

All jokes aside, been finding that some the areas I was going to I was snagging pouches or bed roll or whatever...so I wanted to try something different I can cram all my gear in. and didn't want to spend a fortune so was looking for just a big open pack till I can really get what I want made, and no one really does them at a fair price. I own an Eagle Ind large pack but it's on loan to a friend that deployed, needed it more than me, and despite the love for it, was just heavy.

Plus it has the added utility of being what should work well on the bicycle(which I ride a lot). Figure the lap top compartment should handle a bladder fine. I ended up spending like 40 bucks...if I hate it I know I'll be able to sell it to a cyclist. And even though Timbuk is all made in like the Phillipeans now days, I still like their products, I have several little gadget pouches I've bought on close out work great for EDC and not all tactical. Not that there is anything wrong with that I just like flying under the radar.

It might be poorly suited for woods, time will tell.

It came this evening, pretty interesting pack, my roomates make fun of me when I shoot pics or video on gear when they are home. I need to practice with my video camera though so plan to do a little youtubeage tomorrow, thing is little narrower than I expected, but just in looking it over I think it'll work fine as an overnite bag, as well as just general utility comute to work type thing as I'm making some bags into dedicated BOB/GHB type things seems like it was a good deal for the money...very well made. More to follow.

I like it. those compression straps on the sides look very useful. Looking forward to your review. I might actually grab one of these if I could find one in black or brown.

The camo is the only one I found on the cheap, the other color combos I saw were super funky,a and it was 100 bucks.

Some Pics.

Still not used it, and raining today ,and I am still too sick to play in it. However I can make a few observations it's well made as all Timbuk stuff I've owned...I have no thoughts that it might fail. I can cram all kinds of stuff in it, in the pics it has my bedroll(very bulky), my 10x10 tarp, my Nook eReader, a water bottle, cook set stove, cup combo in a Condor bot sleeve thingy, my major FAK, and some other odds and ends. I made a video but not gotten around to editing it, and I sound weird being sick....

As I don't drive....I feel pretty confident if were to load out on my bicycles or scooter or motorcycle for an overnite, this would suffice, and it doesn't look all tactical or odd, I take bus sometimes as well, and MOLLE gear drew weird looks, why I'm getting out of that. The outside pocket does have a slight issue being just velcro, and this is something many people complain about that use it...this pocket doesn't offer a lot of security, for me this isn't a super big deal, has a little devider in it and small zipper compartment... more or less think some small items in here, guidebook so on so forth. Would like maybe a fastex on it for added security. Easy enough to add. Which gets to why I bought this, it would be easy enough to sew on as it's not a zippered bag. I'm planning to order some lash patches and make it more adaptable, for small axe or machete carry. It has an exterior pocket on the right, they say is for a 'u lock' or water bottle, yeah kinda but it's really tight squeeze, maybe a glove pocket i'm thinking. Ok so it's called a lap top bag, and well it is fo sure, actually has a nice reasonably padded laptop compartment, this Dell fits in 14.5". Good amount of room in it for however you might want to use it, I have my casalty blanket in at the moment. Shoulder straps.....not particularly heavily padded, fine with me as I don't generally carry a lot has a weird bottle opener on it(is designed for urban hipsters) I sctually think is kinda neat. and the ability to add to the straps, more civi style stuff like a cellphone gps case etc. There is no sternum strap, might be an issue for some doesn't really bother me, and if I want one I can add it. No waist belt, which being that it's designed for cyclist use makes perfect sense, would just get in the way, and if I'm doing a load I'll use the appropriate pack anyway. Not what I for see using this for.

For a pretty inexpensive(I gave 30) and well made platform pack to mod oh yeah I recommend it, with a little work I think it'd make a good combo woods and urban pack, groceries and so forth. Yeah it's a funky camo, figured that's why it was a closeout, but these list at like 100 bucks, and has all kinds of room to put patches on ! ;)

Anyway some pics:

nice lookin rig! thanks for showin us, kind of reminds me of a dry bag/backpack...woods

Thanks for the pix! Would love to see one of the suspension side, with some detail of the straps.

OK I'll say it. That pack is UGLY. No wonder it went on closeout. However, it does look very functional as a mixed urban/bush bag, and for the price is probably well worth it. As you note, Timbuk stuff is well made, so it will probably be a good user.

brother....if you think THAT pack is ugly....

don't go to their site! lol....

I spend some time on different pedal blogs and sites...those 'hipsters' have some crazy ideas on what colors to put on a bag! (timbuk2 and Chrome let you build your own)

I worked as a courier for a bit and used a Chrome pack, which was essentially a dry bag with shoulder straps, it worked for what it was, wish still had it. But yeah on Timbuks site those they show are butt ugly.

Impressions after fair amount of Usage.

I know what you all must be thinking enough with the bike bag already. I did actually take it into the woods yesterday after having using it as my suburban go to work, library, store type deal. I will say as an urban bag it kicks butt for most part. I work as a chef and don't own a car so I'm generally on some form of two wheeled transport, or using the limited bus system in my area. My chefs knives alone are a pain to haul along with a change of clothes and so forth. I already own a Timbuk messenger bag that is huge and does a good job for the most part aside from being a shoulder bag and particularly on public transit that is crowded I'm always swinging it into people. (had a guy cuss me on Atlanta subway on a recent trip). This thing devours all my tools for my job, change of clothes my work shoes/clogs with no issue, big honking cookbooks, no problem, case of beer(cans) no problem.

So anyway yesterday I overloaded it to hunt for fatwood with pretty much a substantial overnite load out just to see. Being a pack made for urban hipsters I guess we could say, I know it'll have it's limitations and this is what I found and liked and didn't. The large external pocket with it's velcro closure is pretty limited, it needs a second closure option to be truly effective and not worry about loosing items. This is an easy enough fix with some webbing and a fastex buckle and I will do it shortly(need to get some web). I've not had it open and lost anything but I don't tempt fate either, it's good for some gloves and small items, you can cram alot in it, I put my FR1 sized FAK in it no issue fit wise with room to spare but don't totally trust the velcro. On a plus and I wish it had two of them is this lock pocket on the side(or water bottle) which is tight for Bottle use but I found my alcohol fuel bottle and the bottom of my BK7 ride here nicely. The side load compression straps also nice, my bdu organizer(PSK) rides well on the bottom of the other side, been nice if had same pocket though. Sides are nice long easy to access and I will definately be adding lash tabs for say Machete or hatchet carry as well as some lash points on the bottom for bedroll. It's remarkably water resistant, but being designed as a comuter/courier bag I'd expect it to be but isn't perfect but serves my purposes. The pleasant surprise is this huge exterior compartment designed for laptops, which it handles mine fine. I stuck a small cutting board and casualty blanket in here along with a spare base layer shirt that pretty much rides in it all the time and there's still room for a hydration bladder. Back padding is ok not great but nothing pokes me and I had saw, hatchet and other stuff riding a bicycle at a pretty good clip, both road and trail. Shoulder straps are thin and not super padded, really hasn't bothered me even with heavy load, it's designed for easy on off so there is no sternum strap, I'm kinda on the fence if it needs one or not I plan to try one when I get my webbing material. It handle load riding or pedaling and is pretty manageable not having a lot of depth, just a big ol simple bag that I gotta admit for the 30ish i paid I'm more than happy with. I' was jokingly calling it a 'stealth urban bushcrafter pack' with my roommate where I could easily ride my bike to a location lock it up and hit the trail with anything needed, and come out on the trail on another side of town have lunch and a beer and go right back into the woods again, and no one would really bat an eye. Sure it's ugly but doesn't bother me and with some lash tabs added I'll be using it much more. Is it for everyone? Nope.

Few more pics.

The lap top compartment...I want to get a sheet stiffner to fit the entire compartment at some point. Pretty handy compartment though for my casualty blanket, think might nest a MEST in there as well, handles any of my 2l water bladders pretty sure a 3l would fit.

one side got my BDU organizer on the bottom cinch should be easy enough to add lash tabs.

other side with my BK7 riding and Alcohol fuel in the pocket, knife rides fine but would like a lash tab or two on this side as well, and wish other side had this pocket :(

the shoulder straps are kinda unusual compared to other packs I own, least how seem to me, rater wide spread when I wear it, prett big guy too, it's not uncomfortable, least on short trips, it'll really take a longer trip to see.
