I was just checking TOPS website and ran across this:
http://www.topsknives.com/product_info.php?cPath=16&products_id=325

Seems to be a pretty decent "multi" utility tool.. I like the idea, but wondering if would be a useful tool with multiple options. (start arguement here ;) )

I think it would be a cool tool to keep in the vehicle, especially if you have a vehicle or ATV that you take into the deeper parts of the wilderness..

What are your thoughts?

Dang, Tops is hit or miss. When they hit, they are dead on. When they miss .... well we get the Haket. Dang

I kinda like it but the price is absurd. $190 introductory offer... Seriously? Cool concept and I don't mind spending good money on my gear but that's too much for what it is, even with the "extras" they are including.

Tops makes some well designed products, then again...Tops also makes some stuff like this. I would rather have the haket than a screwdriver, but an axe would be better still.

Many people probably find the Tracker to be too "tacticool" but that has been proven to work well. It looks like an interesting tool, the price is a bit too steep for me, but I'm sure in the hands of someone capable it would prove to be useful.

I made one of those about ten years ago with a edger blade and a dust pan handle lol
I think its still in the yard somewhere.lol waiting for some love

Maybe I'm too open minded to see tacticool, because I see a "hawk" (like so many people love here) and I see a knife blade (which many people here love too)

I'm just wondering what constitutes "tacticool". Black? Multi-use? Lack of wood handles? Lack of leather?

I didn't see anywhere on the description about it being a military tactical weapon/tool. It is advertised as a survival tool. (I know this is bushcraft, not SB) I just don't see the "tacticool" of it. Must be the nylon sheath.

The tacticool "look" doesn't valuate quality at all.

Of a bigger concern is that tightening ring that holds the blade in place ... and how robust of a placement lock it gives. Especially if a strong man with a strong swing or cutting motion is working the tool hard.

I agree with you on that one. That would be one of my concerns.. I'd hate to try to chop some firewood and have that blade rotate on me. Good observation Crco.

To me when I see a Air crew Crash Axe advertised as a "Tactical breaching tool" or a Multi tool with a det crimper,or pencil det spike, ballistic nylon sheath thats what it means to me something the Airsofter Mom is gonna buy for scooter the Shooter for his next "Mish"... it says in the description tactical spear coming soon or something like that.As Mentioned Tops is hit and miss

there was a book Royal Marine commandos that had a great saying

"A pocket flare and a mars bar would be of more use to a man with sprained ankle in the Cairngorms than a lethal catapult"..."the Essentials for Survival/Bushcraft are not Dangerous Toys"...
I think of that when I see this kinda stuff.

Take care

Great quote M/BK.

I was merely wondering what people's thoughts were on this item. I just didn't understand "tacticool"... Good responses. Thanks

Me personally, I wouldn't spend the money on it. Too expensive for what it is. A mora and a CS Hawk will accomplish the same thing for 1/8 of the price.

From a SHTF/Zombie Apocalypse/Urban survival stand-point it would be an interesting addition to ones kit, primarily as a weapon first, tool second.
