I am getting one of these (Trangia Spirit Burner -or- Etowah II stove) from BCUSA-Outfitters, and I would like to hear a real world review-and-comparison of the two.
-- boil & burn times
-- alcohol economy
-- durability / ease of use
-- etc.

Thaks Guys

Joe -

I just got a Trangia from BCO. And its great. Its heavier than i thought it would be, and burns easily first time out. I have been trying to come up with a stove (think spacer) to raise the pot above the stove. I hear the optimal lift is 1.25 to 1.5 inches. When i get something, i'll post. From what i can tell, the Etowah seems to be fool proof, but i like the Trangia's form factor. I don't have the Etowah, just opinion.

Test results so far:Trangia: 2oz denatured 16mins or so. 1oz. burned in about 7.5 minutes.

The Trangia is on backorder at BCO. There is only one distributor for it in the US, and they informed me yesterday that they would not be back in stock until the end of February.

I don't understand these suppliers that do that. The outdoor market cycle is the same every year, and every year during the peak season, they don't plan. It ticks me off.

I prefer the Svea military stove I have, little bit bigger than Civi Trangia for cooking. I use a reg trangia mostly for brewing coffee or tea, I've never timed anything to speak of, they work and that's good enough for me. I used to build stoves, but prefer these now. They are bomb proof long as you don't cook the o ring in the lid.

Get the Etowah. I have both and the Etowah is way better than the Trangia. I didn't record the times but the Etowah easily out performed every other alcohol stove I have.

Just got a good 12 min burn out of 1oz of denatured with this setup. It didn't quite boil. I lost a lot of heat coming up around the pot. Might have to try it with the simmer ring installed.

You can kind of see the flames coming up around it. Its a fruit can.

I don't have an Etowah...so I'm casting my vote for Trangia. The one feature it has that the others don't is the ability to store fuel. I don't have to measure or estimate how much fuel to fill the stove with...waste fuel by burning it off...or try to pour excess fuel back into the bottle.

Love the Trangia. Like the simmer ring and the fact that you can close it back up with fuel inside.

What type of fruit can and what size (like 6 oz etc)? Also how stable is it using the can?

An acceptable, affordable, and light weight stove is the folding aluminum with chromed steel grill Sterno Folding Stove. The Trangia burner is a perfect fit, it provides a shield from the wind, and they are very reasonable in cost.

i have the Trangia with the Clickstand - it works every time without a sound which is so nice out in the woods. i have fried bacon , bread, eggs and much more and it has never falied. i really don't keep track of times but it's fast enough for me and i can closed it up with fuel in the stove once it cools.

I have both and the Etowah really performs well. The trangia doesn't get used as much, but still a great burner. You need to get both. :)

I love my Trangia stove, I don't know anything about the other one. The Sterno stove will work with the Trangia but not very well without a couple of small small modification's. An Esbit stove makes a better stand but it needs to be modified also, it's also smaller and lighter and not as bulky. Both stoves can also be used for wood stoves but the Sterno Stove is better to burn wood in because it's bigger.
