At the end of this month I get to take a week long trip to Phoenix and I am wondering if there are any members in the area that might have time to meet for a cup of coffee or something while I'm down there.

Would be proud to meet up with you. How long will you be in town, long enough for an overnighter? I'm in the White Mountains, which really are white this time of year.

I'm getting in on the 25th and leaving on the 31st. Will drop you guys PM's in the next week to see what we can set up. Wish I would have time for an overnight. Would be a big treat to do some desert bushcraft but I don't think there will be time with all the family things I'm suppose to do.

Where in phoenix are you going to be? It's a spread out city. I live in the far east valley, in Gilbert. Drop me a pm and maybe I'll make it too.

Does anyone have a favorite stomping ground we could all meet up at for a day hike or an afternoon of sitting around swapping lies? Make kind of a mini meet? Or a favorite watering hole......Coffee or beer, I can go either way. I can tell lies in a "civilized" setting if I have to but if just don't seem the same. I don't know the area at all so I can't make a suggestion, but am sure I can find the spot.

1J, PM us with where you'll be and we can find somewhere close by for a meet up, BBQ and lies.

According to my parents I'm going to be in what is known as the East Valley? Sister lives in Mesa and Mom & Dad have a Gilbert address. I come form a nomadic people (it's min of 30 miles to a movie theater) so travel isn't a big deal. I can make it were it's the most convienent for the majority.

From the East Valley, the Superstitions would be a fairly accessible destination for a day hike. Not sure if I'd be able to make it up there or not, but who knows!

I PM'd 1Jesster and he said he's not familiar enough with the East Valley to pick a spot, so it's up to us.
I vote for North Power Rd./Bush Hwy. area since it's close and easy to find for all coming from out of town. We could do an overnighter if everyone wanted to or just a cook out as we choose, maybe both with those who want to staying overnight and others going back home in the evening.
How about a date? Jesster will arrive on 25th and depart on 31st Jan. The 28th is a Saturday. How about Fri.-Sat, 27th-28th? Or maybe just the 28th with no overnighter?

How say you all?

Saturday would be great for me. Friday is out as I have that day planned to spend with my dad one on one and there is very little that will get me to pass up that time. Not sure time wise if I'll be able to do an over nighter, besides that I'm flying in and will be with out gear.

Saturday will work for me. This place that's being suggested. Is there a lot of hiking to get there? Hiking is a shortcoming for me and I can't make it very far. I'll probably have my son with me also.

I doubt I'll be able to make it, as we have family visiting from Colorado that weekend. Hope you guys have a great time.

Ok guys I have to be back in Mesa by 3:00 pm on Saturday. What time do we want to kick this shin dig off? Ed can you pick an exact spot for us to meet up at?

The wife is off that Saturday and has planned for us to go to Tuscon for the Gem show. Maybe next time guys, my wife works six days a week so when she wants to do something I oblige her. Remember, if momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy. Jesster, if you come accross another time while you're here that you just want to meet up for coffee or something, let me know and I'll try to make it.

I'll drive up north on Power Rd. in the next few days and see what I can find. I know that the river and the lake require a pass ($5), but I see what else I can find and keep you guys posted. Burgers and beer at the least?

Sitting in the airport thanking God I'm on vacation. Any one want to pull the trigger on a time & place for Saturday? And if a outdoor meet up is going to take to much time I say we hit a pub with good food for lunch. Oh and can someone loan me a side arm while I'm down there? The TSA/air marshals had no humor about the glock in my carry on.

After a statement like that is this day and age my answer would be no.

That was a joke by the way. I do kind of feel lost after going through all my stuff last night and making all my kit fligh friendly
