US sleep system size question.

While I can't give you a definitive answer as I have no direct experience I have to say a resounding yes. That pack is designed with the sleep system in mind so it should fit.

1. If by the large US Army backpack you mean a CFP-90, yes it will fit in the bottom compartment if you use the compression stuff sack.

2. If you mean a large molle ruck, it will almost fill the rucks main compartment, you should put it in the separate sleep system carrier hung on the frame below the ruck.

3. If you mean a large Alice, then it will fill up the main compartment, see answer 2.

Thanks! :)

I mean this bad boy!

Sorry for the small picture.

Thanks bro.

Guess I don't need to fit the entire system in a once unless I'm cold weather camping and it should fit nicely in the bottom compartment?

That bottom compartment is sized approximately the same as the sleep system carrier. It is intended to fit the sleep system after being compressed inside the compression stuff sack.

So yes, it should fit nicely.

Now go get that ruck dirty, it looks way to clean. ;)

Thanks for the all the info bro!!

That's not my pack, just a pic off the interwebs. ;)

Mine is off the "bay" and looks like it's been out and about before I got it.

I'm bidding on the sleep system right now.

Don't go over $119 for a used complete system, because you can get one here http://www.unclesamsretailoutlet.com/Tennier-Industries-ACU-Modular-Sleep-System-4-Piece-Systems.html for that price.

They also have new ones for $219.00.

This is the retail arm of Government Liquidation, that's who everyone in the surplus business buys from wholesale.

I'm currently in Germany so thanks anyway. ;)

I've set my limit for this auction to $65 and if I win that's cool and if I don't it's cool too!

I just picked up the 4 piece (doesn't have the carrier, just 3 bags and the compression) issued for $100. I know the guys at the surplus shop pretty well, they pieced it together for me with good pieces.

With the way the MSS's have been at selling at auction at the wholesale level, thats a smoking deal.

They threw out 3 of the black bags before they found a good one. Supposed to be kitting out a few more of them for sale in the next week or so. I can keep an eye out if anybody wants one (disclaimer: I'm not affiliated with the shop, other than the fact that I prb own stock with all I've bought there)

These are the same guys that put me in a dang near unissued Large ALICE with a NEW frame for $35.

I need to stop going there, they know me too well, and they know my money REAL well.

I have the sleep system in my Molle II and while very heavy with the full system loaded in it (adds around an extra 10+lbs) it fits easily. I purchased a kifaru compression sack, regulator i believe, to put the bags in and it compresses down quite a bit more with it. Its still huge but a definite improvement.

Thanks for the info on that compression sack! :dblthumb:

I paid more than 119 for my sleep system, thanks for the deal. The green bag and the goretex cover most peoples camping needs and don't take up much space.

Thats a pretty damn good deal! You should be pretty happy with it, they really are great systems and are very warm even when the weather dips below zero. They do weigh quite a bit more than the synthetic/down ultralight bags but especially for that steal you can't go wrong.

I have been pleased with my MSS (got it free - which is even better)
I haven't used the compression bag that came with it (the MSS is all heavy enough, don't need that extra weight too.)
I generally carry the bivy and black bag, and put it in the MOLLE carrier - along with a few other things. (bulky and heavy, but doable)
I would really love a good warm bag that is very light and highly compressible .. But, I be "poor folk", and have to do with what I have.

I hear ya, I used the mss for a long while and didnt get my first ultralight bag until october of last year. The difference is UNBELIEVABLE! Not only is it a fraction of the size but its a good 7+lbs lighter. I went with a 0* bag which I lose some heat rating, but hopefully the temperatures will fall a little so I can test out just how far below zero I can comfortably go
