Took Toto for a walk today out on a service road behind my house... After about 2 hours of walking I got stopped by two hunters that told me I was trespassing and that there were people up in the trees hunting and I might get shot! I headed back home and that ended my fun...The funny thing is, in the two hours that I was out walking about, I did not see one single Posted/Private Property/No Trespassing sign along the way.... Not to mention I believe I was still within city limits so what is going on my people? were people doing hunting out there...hmmmm must be different laws down here in GA...anyways I have some pictures and unfortunately none of them are of me making my coffee since I didn't get to...bummer...

I wouldn't be surprised if the guys who stopped you were the only ones hunting today, they probably wanted you to feel like you were in mortal danger and tell all your friends so they could keep their hunting spot secret. They may have made up the story about private property and trespassing because they thought you and your dog may scare away some of the game they were hunting, or it could have been the honest truth, private property can be private without signage it's your responsibility to know where you are just as much as it's the hunter's responsibility to know if they are outside of city limits. I think the majority of hunters are good people and respect property rights as well as others rights to public lands, but there are some real nuts out there, be careful.

Yeah, just because property isn't posted doesn't mean that you are not trespassing. But it could also true that these guys just want people to stay away from their hunting spot.

Try to find some tax maps or trail maps of the area to double check who owns it.

I checked out a property map and it's owned (all 2345 acres) by a land management/development agency out of Fernandina Beach FL. I wrote the VP of the company asking for permission to hike on the property, hopefully they say yes cause it's a beauty of a place to wander around in.

If that's a "secret" hunting spot they screwed up. I'd have laid low and let you walk past me without even knowing I was there, rather than make a big deal out of it so it will stick in your mind. Op Sec.
Looks like a nice area to go for a ramble in, will be neat if you get permission to hike, picnic, etc. there. Then no problems.

Could be that the management co. issues hunting leases, and those guys might have paid good money to access it. If that's the case, they'll probably let you hike there, but not during deer/turkey season.

And hunting isn't necessarily banned within city limits. Often the rule is no shooting within 3/4 of a mile of a business or residence.

That's pretty country, is that a sweet gum tree in the pics?

I'm not well versed in trees as of yet, but according to what I have researched on it thus far it looks like it is a sweet gum, a very very young one... We have a ton of em around here, always seeing the fruit laying around when I go walking to the dock behind my house... I just loved the color of the leaves, and their shape so I took a couple of pictures, I try to figure out what they are later...lol
