I'm a rabid tea drinker. Have been for several years now since the doc took me off of coffee. That was the roughest time of my life since basic training. Anyhoo, I have reached the bottom of one of my tea containers and don't want to toss it. It has potential to be a great addition to my kit. I have a few ideas what I want to do with it. I'm curious what you would do with them.

The one with the brass colored top is about a quarter of an inch larger in diameter than a soda can. Its all metal. The black topped one is the same diameter as a soda can. The top is metal with a plastic lip.

So, what would you do with them if they were yours?

i have some similar tea cans and one that is about that height but is like 3 shorter ones stacked together. i have been holding on to them partially because i figured i would do something with them and partially because i have an addiction to tins. look forward to ideas thank youo for asking

It looks to me like a penny coke can stove will nest inside your tea tin "pot" with room left over for a small fuel bottle, some tea, a windscreen and a spork.

I also have a tea container like that, which I held onto until inspiration strikes. Looking forward to some ideas piling up here!

Survival kit in a can, toss it in the car. Space blanket, matches, small knife ferro rod, compass ,light weight plastic poncho, water purification tablets, para cord, and some first aid items, (asprin, band aids, ect) tea bags and bullion cubes. Any thing else you rely on in an emergency situation. Pen and paper in case my idea fails you can write a fare well and a will.

I would carry my pipe and tobacco in one!

Wow. Um... okay.

Lets see... I've never worn lip gloss in my life. Lipstick as appropriate to the occasion, yes, lip gloss never. A trip to the woods isn't one of those occasions.

My mom was the one who smoked in the family, not my dad. She was definitely feminine. Tobacco isn't masculine or feminine, its a slow killer. It took my mom.

As for the metro-sexual labels, right now they are telling me what's still in the canister. And I do always drink tea, as I said in my first post. I need the label on the large can. Its not empty yet. The paper on the other one came off nice and easily.

If you are a woman, please ignore my post and use them as is for storing things as needed.

So, I can't make anything with them because I'm a woman?
The last time I was out there, the bush didn't care if I was a man or a woman. It wasn't going to adjust itself or my experience to fit my gender.

Unless you are planning to store your lip gloss or feminine hygene products in them, the first thing I would do would be to remove the metrosexual bushcrafter labels and replace them with labels using more masculine words like "tobacco" or "whiskey."

Thanks for giving me another idea. Why not wrap some duct tape around the out side so it can be removed and reused.

Ideas so far

Wildernut a penny coke can stove will nest inside your tea tin "pot" with room left over for a small fuel bottle, some tea, a windscreen and a spork.

Seeker flour, salt (not so much since it rusts), or sugar containers for a week out (or) dry tinder holder

GMScooter Hobo stove, FAK container, Found tender container

layton13069 Candle lantern

econnofoot Canjo

Holmesmade Six months of char cloth or cotton pads all at once.

rdraider I made a fire kit out of a similarly shaped tin. Something like 2" by 6"

Great ideas so far.

I'm thinking punched tin candle lantern when I look at those.

Maybe make a separate socket/holder for the candle from a small tin that would slide inside your Tea tin. That would catch drips and make it easier to change candles. The lid would have to be vented or just left off when burning.

It would be the perfect size to fit in your glove box until needed.

maybe...

How do you make pine tar?

We used to collect the dry gobs of pine sap that runs out of any damage to the tree. They can be melted down like wax in a double boiler. You can notch a tree here and there and go back later to collect it.

I think what makes it "tar" is the added ash and dry grass/inner bark(or poop)

I think there are youtube vids on it.

My personal method is actually incredibly similar to this but I am just copying Ray Mears...

How he showed it is you take some pin rich in resin, we'd call it fatwood (using fatwood for something besides fire! Blasphemy!) and heat it in an air tight container- similar to Charcloth you get two products out charcoal and pine tar. the pine tar can be used as a sealant, glue, all sorts of stuff. and charcoal is, well charcoal.

Edit: If you just want pine tar needles are a decent option otherwise you need fatwood since what you get from just regular pine is hardly worth the effort

You can do the same thing with fresh animal bones only from that you get bone black, which can be used to filter out heavy metals from water, and dippel oil, which is a bug repellant.

Thanks pfspinelli. If you do make it, please do a post about it.

Ok so I made it and took photos but photobucket isnt letting me upload them there will be a new thread on in the next couple of days...

PS
re: Tea

If you like tea celestial seasonings makes a vanilla roobios, then take a peppermint stick and dissolve it in.... Fantastic.

I'm also partial to english breakfast...

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I'm partial to Barry's Irish Breakfast with heavy cream for a straight up black tea. Sweetie likes English breakfast if we are out of Typhoo.

What about a pierced tin candle lantern? Or if you made a survival tin you could rivet a 20 gauge shell base to the lid and have a candle holder that wouldn't drip all over as well as not destroying your metal container. Just some random thoughts.

I like the idea of using the shell to hold a candle.
