Whether tent, tarp or hammock, whether you use a bag or a blanket......

What method do you use to keep your feet warm while sleeping when winter camping?
David

Stocking cap, and a warm rock or water bottle.

k-not very traditional or tacticool but my little piggies are warm and that's what counts
-and i can always run around on the snow and brush them off

Dry wool socks. I always pull my feet out of my boots, pull off the socks I have been wearing all day and put on my spare pair. Your feet sweat and even if your socks feel dry there is moisture in them and your feet get cold. A fresh set of socks makes all the difference.

As the others have said... I pull my boots and socks off then put on a fresh pair of thick wools.

Those blue 1/2 inch foam matresses you get for cheap...I got 2 of them laid on my RV floor and i can be barefoot in the winter as long as i keep my feet on the 'bluefoam matress' i cant feel the cold

I used to use just an extra pair of wool socks but last winter I stumbled onto a different method. Now I just wrap my feet loosely in a wool or fleece shirt/sweater and tuck it into the footbox of my quilt. I find this keeps them quite a bit warmer than wool socks (I liken it to the mittens versus gloves argument, that keeping both feet together works better than individually). Before this I used a sit pad under my feet in the hammock but find this is warmer and more comfortable.

I sleep in a hammock.i have been trying something diferant,no socks.i used to wake up most mornings with cold feet when out below freezing since i started not wearing socks my feet stay warm all night.my feet sweat allot so i believe this sweat gets soaked into my socks.i keep my socks in the hammock with me and put them on if my feet do get cold.this has not happened much.this works for me down to about 15deg.f.colder then that and i wear wool socks.below zero i wear wool socks and a wool pac liner that fits in my boots.also make sure the rest of you is dressed warm enough includeing a hat,or even a balaclava.if your core temp does not stay warm you will never keep your feet warm.a full belly is also a must to keep warm.i bring a snack to bed with me and if i wake cold i eat it,this has warmed my feet up many times.if below about 15 i also button my coat around the foot end of the hammock.pull the sleeves inside the coat.

I wish all it took was 5 or 6 pairs of wool sock, but if my poor toes get cold they won't warm themselves up. So I whip out my trusty red rubber hot water bottle.

It started out as a douche/enema bag kit like this:

I didn't need the extra attachments (not built for one, and I prevent the other issue by eating lots of chili), so I tossed them and just kept the bag. I heat up some water on the stove or fire, pour it into the bag, fasten lid tightly, and stuff it down into the foot of my sleeping bag, resulting in warm toes.

One of my wool caps and multiple socks. My feet get cold a lot anyways so multiple socks does it for me.

+1 on the hand-warmers. Last 10 hours and have not messed with me via the heat or reaction to the chemicals. Stick em in your pocket or near your feet and forget about it, it will keep you warm throughout the night with no worry.

+1 on the wool socks (I prefer wig-wam).
I also stuff a cheap fleece sleeping bag I got from sportsman's guide down into the bottom of my bag. (Can also be used as a liner if needed)

Fresh thick socks for me, i have a reserve pair for this so old i can't remember what they are.
Loose boots in a garbage bag if it's really cold.
Haven't tried the warm rock method, I've never needed it.

I keep a pair of handknit super thick unprocessed wool kilt hose/socks for sleeping. I also wear a knit cap and if it is really really cold, I'll heat rocks, wrap them in material and put them in the bottom of my bedroll. It's making me sleepy just thinking about it!

I sleep bare foot no matter what.. I think my feet are clausterphobic..

Back in the late 80's I used to winter camp a lot with a college buddy "Chris" fishing Moosehead Chesuncook and Mattagammon in northern Maine. Unfortunately, it is hard to find people that want to do that sort of thing these days, present company excepted. My girls did when they were in my early teens.

Well back to the feet thing: At about mid-night one night Chris stumbled got out of the tent went out for a few minutes, then returned with the statement, "Did you ever notice that when you take a leak your feet warm up." I said no I try not to P^** on my feet. "Well I didn't, I don't, I just mean... " We laughed for at least an half an hour

So try Chriss's method it works for a minute or two.
