This has been a really lousy winter in Northern Illinois. Most folks I talk to like it. Temps at least 10 degrees warmer than normal and NO snow. Been mid- thirties to low forties most of the time. And too rainy to even take the pooch on the trails we usually walk, all mud.
I hate cold rain. I'll take mid twenties snow over mid thirties rain any day.
I spend July and August in the heat and humidity thinking about walking in the snow covered woods and this year it's just mud and ugly.

I hear you man. It snowed last night here. We went to bed with snow accumulating on cars. When we woke up, there was o snow anywhere. It's depressing and disheartening to say the least.

same here in Central Illinois. Average temp here is around 33 for this time of year. At this moment it is 53 and climbing!

We are running a little over 20 degrees colder than normal for this time of year. It is -27 degrees below 0 this morning.
The good news is that it is warmer than what it was!
Best Wishes

I don't miss those sloppy IL winters. I travel up to the mountains once or twice a year to get my snow fix. That's enough for me.

It's 85 deg. outside work right now in Lake Forest, CA. We don't get snow like alot of you folks, but we usually have our own version of winter. It gets old being summer-like all the time.

We have been having an abnormal winter in New England. With the exception of a freak snowstorm over Halloween weekend we have had bare ground. The exception is northern New England( more than half way up VT,NH and Maine)

In a way it is good. I believe our deer herd suffered last winter. A mild winter will help them out.

I hear ya with this, brother! It's the one weather pattern I really don't like much.
Heat, cold, snow, warm rain, even ice I can deal with...but cold rain just sucks (to me)

.

Indeed.

One of the mildest 'winters' so far in my memory. We've had some cold, and up here in the snow belt I've got about 6 or so inches on the ground, however, last year I had well over two feet of snow. At one point it was not uncommon to see the snow through the glass door at a doorknob depth.

Definitely unseasonal for me.

Been mild here too.

Generally I'm not a huge fan of winter but I love being out during a snowfall. Its the most beautiful kind of quiet I've ever heard.

Been patiently waiting for it to happen this season...

I almost started a thread myself. I was thinking yesterday ,"is this what we have to look forward to with global Warming'??,,,,. Its above normal temps for winter here and has been raining for a few days. In other wards for us here in the west kootenays winter will be more messy, more wet snow rather than dry. In SW Saskatchewan it was over 60 yesterday and no snow and they were having a forest fire,,,in January. Now that's crazy.

Sorry guys, But I don't mind it a bit, The oilman has visited me so far half as much as he did at this time last year, It's the first week of january already and I haven't had to shovel my walks or lay down snow melt once.
So far this season only two days have gone below freezing with most daytime temps averaging about 40 or above, I'm loving it, if this is "global warming" I hope it lasts untill april, maybe it'll be even warmer next winter, we need to be building bigger campfires to help the climate change along.....grinning like a kid.

This weekends forcast is for temps to be in the mid 50's, I may just take to the woods for the day, maybe get in a little fishing as well.
Only about seven more weeks intil the warming winds of march, it don't get much better than that.

We get quite a bit of Lake Effect Snow here. Our average snowfall per Winter is well over 100 inches, a really snow year runs over 200 inches. This year (so far) I do not think we have had even 10 inches total. It has been very warm and rainy. I would like to see some cold and snow also.

almost 60 degree's in MT, no snow in anyplace but high mountain ranges. I was hoping for ultra cold to kill off the dang pine beetle eating my beautiful state, but no such luck.

You can blame me for the lack of snow. just put together a new pulk and, well Murphy's law!

The bad part is last year was so great . We had snow before Christmas til almost April .
I was just towing my pulks over frozen leaves , which actually was not as bad as I thought .
Weve had about 3 snows over 2 inches but none of them lasted more then a week except down in the river bottom .

Cold here and got some snow finally. Winter will soon be in full swing boys.

We broke record highs today and although I enjoyed it I would have been just as happy with snow and cold............

Well I've noticed the weather has been getting warmer for decades. I've seen pictures of where they use to cut ice from the Wabash river and haul it out with horses (1917 picture) and in my life time of 54 years the Wabash has never frozen over.

In the 60's I had to drive a tractor (read tractor with no cab or heat) to the other farm to cut a hole in the ice for our dry cows and heifers to drink and from my memory the 60's was brutally cold. We ice skated on frozen ponds and now you can't. It just doesn't get cold enough long enough.

The gas to our farm house was supplied by oil wells and every winter we had to burn straw on the pipe to keep the flow up as field gas is wet and will freeze in low spots.

If I could describe the 60's with one word it would be "COLD".

No snow here either. We've had some cold nights in the single digits but for the most part pretty warm. And I had the bright idea to request snowshoes for christmas

With you guys on all this as well. This has been a bummer of a winter. Still waiting on first ice for the ice fishing and it's already January. We've had snow it's just been too warm to stay. Maybe that means I'll be ice fishing in May this year. ;)

I feel your warmth . As a kid growing up in the late 50s and 60s I lived to play hockey . Sometimes we'd get some games in early December but after Christmas we were gauranteed enough ice clear through to almost March .
I drive by the old park where we used to skate just to see if I can watch a game . Nothing but red lights and red flags for most years . Only skating around here seems to be on artificial ice .
