I already had a thread on this, but I'm trying to get an accurate count of people for the Connecticut 'Crafters winter meet.

That being said, ANYONE is welcome! If you're willing to make the trip, we aren't going to discourage you and the more the merrier!

This meet will be held at The Hemlocks, right over the state line in the MT Washington State Forest, along the Appalachian Trail, at the Hemlocks Shelter.

(I know it's ironic that we're holding our first meet in another state)

The weekend will be February 24th, 25th, and 26th.

Your point of contact will be myself, any and all questions please PM me.

All specific info will be sent out once I have it in order.

I googled The Hemlocks but didn't come up with anything. Is there an address so I can see how far a drive it would be?

Edit: Just checked the dates. I was hoping the 26th was a Monday. Weekends are tough.

I'll edit that in as soon as I have a solid address for people to show up at.

might be helpful to edit it in now for those thinking of making the trip but unsure the distance

Parking access is via: Mount Everett State Reservation

The Hemlocks is a shelter area on the AT. You can zero in on this and parking using the interactive AT map.

I have something to do in Clinton CT on Friday at 6 pm and Sunday at 3 pm. I might make it for Saturday early and push out at night or first thing in the AM. Guessing it would be a fast hammock or bivy camp. There is parking in the lower lot at the Mount Everett Res but don't drive up the road as it will be snowed in. The hike is easy. Up the road on foot and locate the White blaze trail near the privy. Go North...away for Everett towards jug end. You will hit it not too far down trail and after that is Glen brook. The shelter areas are on short side blue blaze trails. There is a privy and water in the area.

Thanks Woods! I'll be using that info to co-ordinate, and these dates may be pushed a week, but for now they are set.

Put me down as a maybe ..... I will be at the HammockForums.net New Jersey Winter Hang next weekend, and will try to get some additional time off in Feb to make this meet.

PS - Come to Jersey if you like! All welcomed!

It would be great to attend so I can place faces to "screen names" :31:

Are there fires allowed? Does one backpack into the camp sites there or do you drive to a designated area?

Is there a knife blade length limit in MA? I already know my carry permit is no good there...

Sorry for all the questions there guys :57:

Fires - ground fire are allowed acording to WW, and his pictures show fire rings in front of the shelter.

There will be a hike in, looks like a min of 1 mile according to the map posted by NEbigfoot but may be up to 3 miles due to winter road closing.

I was planning on getting up there for a day hike this weekend and will try to get more detailed information.

There ARE ground fire allowed, we will be arriving at the lower lot at the MT Everett Res. As for the Knife blade length limit in MA I do not remember, but I DO remember never having a problem with it on a trail or in a state forest.

Yes there are big fire rings at the shelters and smaller ones at the campsites. If my memory is correct the hike is around 2-3 miles. One nice thing, the Hemlocks is a two story lean-to shelter and can sleep at least 6 or more people. If I roll in late and need to leave early I might just sleep in one of the lean-to shelters (smaller one at glen brook as well) to save time aka no camp to break in the morning.

So you'll be going into the Reservation off Mt. Washington Rd. is that right ?

Google maps calls it the Mt Everett Road. It is not labeled on NEbigfoots map but is the road that goes past Guilder pond to Mt Everett.

bringin this up to see who else can attend?

seems my employer is not allowing me out for this date so Ill request it be pushed into March

Hope all is well.

Just wanted to say Id love to join you fellers

If this is mt Washington I'm about an hour away

I just tracked down this thread to say I was in, and saw the news. Hope everything is going well with your girlfriend. We'll see what else we can arrange for later. I just recieved "permission" to go, so I will be doing something that weekend, probably on the AT in CT with my six year old son.
