Well, my lovely lady had been distant the last couple of days, so I called her and asked her about it. She told me that she had been doing a lot of thinking with the new year coming, and that she had some concerns and anxieties about us and our relationship that she wanted to discuss with me and that she wanted to do it in person. I wasn’t getting the whole “we need stop seeing each other” vibe from her, but she was definitely having a hard time with something. So, I told her that I planned on hitting the woods the next day to play with some of my new gear and asked if she could get out of work early and join me; since she is quite the little woodswoman and I believe that there is no better forum, than that of a campfire.
She agreed and the next morning I packed up my trusty Duluth Pack Wanderer with some gear and a nice lunch of tomato soup, hard rolls, salami and Dubliner Cheese and headed to pick her up. We had nice, light conversation in the car and on the trail and she even managed to score some chaga on the hike. We found a nice place to stop and I set up camp and built her a fire, using some jute and birch bark and my new ferro rod that I got from Pinebaron in a trade. Once the fire was going well, I broke out my new Emberlit and Zebra Pot and got the tomato soup simmering.
As we ate lunch, I got the chaga she found boiling on the Emberlit and we sat by the fire and talked about what her concerns and anxieties were. I won’t bore you with all the relationship talk, so I’ll just say that I listened patiently and put her mind at ease with what I had to tell her. The rest of the afternoon was spent talking by the fire and enjoying our chaga tea (her first time with chaga, and she loved it).
All in all, I’m calling today a complete win. I got to play with my new gear and our relationship is stronger and better than ever. Is there anything that fresh air, a fire and the company of trees can’t resolve?
Anyways, here are a few photos from our day out. Thanks for looking.

Tomato soup simmering on the new Emberlit. That little stove worked like a charm. I'm in love with it.
Chaga Time!
Is there anything better than a hot beverage on a winter day?
She was so excited and proud of her first chaga score.
Harvesting her find with my new Trail Hawk. Another piece of gear that I'm very please with.
