Boy Scouts - NOTICE!

I’m really glad for these changes, we are crossing over from the pack to the troop and it feels so watered down compared to when my oldest son was in scouts. I’ve went along with some of the stuff in a silent protest because it is still a good program and the scouts can get something out of it, I was just gona teach my son the way we believe at home if it was something I didn’t agree with.
I believe this will bring more kids back to scouts. Looking forward to the Military service merit badge, I hope I get to teach it and my kid is miserable doing it😂

I'm so sorry, I'm not trying to detail this thread but I'm not up to date... Department of war?

Original Presidential Departments

The original executive departments established under President George Washington in 1789 were:
Department of State (responsible for foreign affairs)
Department of the Treasury (responsible for financial matters)
Department of War (responsible for military affairs)
Office of the Attorney General (responsible for legal matters, which later became the Department of Justice)
These four departments formed the foundation of the U.S. executive branch. Washington appointed Thomas Jefferson as Secretary of State, Alexander Hamilton as Secretary of the Treasury, Henry Knox as Secretary of War, and Edmund Randolph as Attorney General. The Department of the Post Office, established in 1792, was later removed from Cabinet status in 1971.

How we do it.

Just restoring the original name that existed until I believe 1947, you remember back when America was respected, shows a return, hopefully, to peace through strength.

Yes, they have changed the name back to Department of War instead of Department of Defense.

I wasn't aware that it was the original name, that makes it a lot less shocking.

Yes, lots of good changes. One of my brothers works for the DOW, used to be Department of Defense. A lot of the DEI crap is gone. “No more dudes in dresses”. “No more fat soldiers”, etc.

My contribution to the ' Boys Scouts of America '... ;)

Interesting, the end result with those “changes “ was obvious to anyone with common sense
Bankruptcy
Should have never happened.
I enjoyed my time in scouts. Started as a webelo scout and made it to star. High school sports, working part time took over.
My daughter tried Girl Scouts. The underlying purpose of Girl Scouts these days is the marketing arm for cookies. That’s all they talked about was cookies, and selling as many as you could.
Nothing outdoors, zero skills of any sort. Just sell cookies. I’d like to think there are squared away GS troops out there.

What was the purpose of bringing young females into a respectable program for young males anyway?

I think you partially answered that yourself. GS wasn't offering outdoor skills. Was that the actual reason or an after effect, I don't know. It seems like recruitment efforts were a big part of the change. BSA lost a lot of money when the LDS church left. That void had to be filled somehow.

The traditionalist in me would like it to remain a place for boys to be boys, but the realist in me sees that the girls involved actually flourish. From what I see at district and council events as well as Facebook groups for leaders, there are plenty of activist leaders that are diluting the original intent and values of scouting. It really is sad that it has become a shell of what it once was.

Another big reason both programs are failing.
Boys and girls can’t put a phone down long enough to do anything productive and learn real life skills.
If they aren’t in the phone it’s a video game. Which, I think they have actually mad3 a merit badge for .
