Driving truck

Zeke,
you staying mainly in the fulton /oswego corridor and making bank?
or you having to venture out farther, like mexico central square too?

i gotta ask my kid if they get doordash? he right there on whitcomb

90% In Osewgo, 10% Fulton. Oswego has low pay but also low miles. Average $20-25 an Hour. Fulton pays better but they are always scamming. Saying the order was damaged or didn't arrive. My rating drops a lot, but I've made $100 in 3 hours before in Fulton, 3pm to 6 pm. Then another $50 from 6PM to 8pm.

College is over for the summer, so Oswego pay will drop now.

I worked as a mechanic on big trucks for years in a younger life. Loved the job but lots of long days n weeks. I still use the skillsets that I learned there working in a professional shop. There's right or wrong. And my family and friends were on the roads to. I always did my best to ensure that those trucks were as safe as possible. And my boss kinda demanded it too.
Today our daughter is working on remote petroleum exploration sites on the north slope of AK as a truck driver.
She always liked to drive. In AK youth can get a permit at 14. When she was 16 we took a trip in our truck and camper to go see family and pick up a 41 Farmall H and bring it back to ak. Family heirloom. We pull out of my parents place. We get a half mile n our daughter asks, can I drive, I emedietly pulled up n jumped in the back seat of the truck. And gave the map to our son in the passenger seat. She drove the whole way minus a couple hundred miles. Near 4,000 miles. 65-70 miles n hour 1 hand on the wheel chillin. She's very good. When she turned 18 we were talking. What's she going to want to do in life. I suggest going to truck driving school, she did. Got her basic stuff. I told her that if she is going to get ahead of the pack another course where she could learn to get all her certificates. Hazmat included. The school was so impressed with her they offered her 3,000 bucks of her next course. Pretty proud dad here.
She has also completed the basic welding courses and took another course in red iron fabrication and welding. Got all her welding certificates up to 2-1/2 red iron. Top of the class again. Her instructor had her replace the welding example of the 2" red iron fab n weld in the front of the class because hers was better than his.
She drove line haul in the states n hated it. She had never seen a toll road. Pulls up n can't believe she has to pay. She tells them she's backing up. They wave her through to next exit. Our daughter.
There was a job fair going on for north slope jobs. She she goes in to check it out. Has no resume, nothing. Just walks in. Over 2,000 other applicants. She was offered jobs from several companies on the spot. She's worked on the most remote exploration rigs in the world, arctic conditions. She's driving a suction truck now. Like 225,000 lbs empty, 450,000 pounds full. She really didn't like having to do the pooper pumper. Had to get the job done. Minus 75 will 50 mile hour wind. Water freezing inside the truck. She did it.
Guess I kinda realized that it's Father's day weekend. She just got back from a hitch so great. We watch her son while she works so I get to hang with our grandson all the time, so blessed.
Our daughter the welder/ truck driver. She's been flown to drive extreme has mat in lower 48 states before. And trusted to haul the most hazardous loads in an environment where no spills are tolerated. Extreme strict tolerances. She could get on any federal job she has her port and military gate clearances and certificates. But she likes the trucks. And I kinda think she likes the challenge. She a young 120 pound bad backside in a man's world. And she demands their respect. Probably the tougher part. She grew up with the mind that nobody is done until everyone is done. She will miss lunch n work over till everyone's done. She runs heavy equipment n stuff when needed.
Our tough AK chick daughter the truck driver. Her winter safety gear weighs near as much as her. Yeah a very proud dad SIPL5ZUXCZAMRIGH2AGHKGOLU4.jpeg

I took one day off. I hit a kid on an Electric Bike. I was pulling out of Burger King, had my front bumper in the road waiting to go. kid came flying up around the front of my car at abut 30 MPH. on the West bound sidewalk going East. I guess he didn't figure I'd pull into the lane until after he went by, but I never saw him at all. I looked right (West) for cars pulling out of the burger king drive through, pulling into wendy's right next door, or coming straight across from the road in front of me. Never saw a dude on a bike. Almost gave up driving all together. Got a ticket for, failure to yield the right of way while entering a roadway. Probably lose my house in a lawsuit now.

The kid left the scene even though we were on the phone with 911. I kept calling him back but he went all the way home. An hour later he called 911 and went to the hospital by ambulance.

Don't know where this will go?

On a fun side, here is an alternative route doordash offered.

I was going to be late with my delivery, which would drop my rating....

I am a firm believer in front and rear cameras in a vehicle. It shows facts when it comes time for court.
Hope it turns out ok for you.

I'm sorry for your accident. However the bicyclist has some culpability as well. He is supposed to be following rules of the road as well. Get an attorney.

This......In NY there aren't any rules either way about riding a bike on the sidewalk. If he went in front of you and your bumper was in the lane, the guy entered the roadway to go around you, effectively traveling against traffic in the lane. Bicycles follow the same rules as cars, so going against the flow of traffic is not allowed in New York. In addition, before entering the road from the driveway he is required to stop and yield to other traffic.
Get a lawyer, fight the citation, and read the law....
Vehicle & Traffic Law Section 1234
Riding on roadways, shoulders, bicycle or in-line skate lanes and bicycle or in-line skate paths
(a)
Upon all roadways, any bicycle or in-line skate shall be driven either on a usable bicycle or in-line skate lane or, if a usable bicycle or in-line skate lane has not been provided, near the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway or upon a usable right-hand shoulder in such a manner as to prevent undue interference with the flow of traffic except when preparing for a left turn or when reasonably necessary to avoid conditions that would make it unsafe to continue along near the right-hand curb or edge. Conditions to be taken into consideration include, but are not limited to, fixed or moving objects, vehicles, bicycles, in-line skates, pedestrians, animals, surface hazards or traffic lanes too narrow for a bicycle or person on in-line skates and a vehicle to travel safely side-by-side within the lane.
(b)
Persons riding bicycles or skating or gliding on in-line skates upon a roadway shall not ride more than two abreast. Persons riding bicycles or skating or gliding on in-line skates upon a shoulder, bicycle or in-line skate lane, or bicycle or in-line skates path, intended for the use of bicycles or in-line skates may ride two or more abreast if sufficient space is available, except that when passing a vehicle, bicycle or person on in-line skates, or pedestrian, standing or proceeding along such shoulder, lane or path, persons riding bicycles or skating or gliding on in-line skates shall ride, skate, or glide single file. Persons riding bicycles or skating or gliding on in-line skates upon a roadway shall ride, skate, or glide single file when being overtaken by a vehicle.

(c)
Any person operating a bicycle or skating or gliding on in-line skates who is entering the roadway from a private road, driveway, alley or over a curb shall come to a full stop before entering the roadway.

My first job in my 20s was in a fl60 Freightliner Bob truck, not a big rig but I kept the roads hot from ok city to Memphis. Anywhere 4 hours from little rock arky.
I've talked to plenty of yall otr truckers on the cb and not claiming I was ever a trucker. Y'all have my respect.

My handle was white lighting or Papa Smurf. Ran a hopped up uniden grant with a 200 watt x force foot warmer. Have it set up as a base station in my shop now. Went back to Pappa Smurf now days if ya in southern arky.

Ya I learned all about NY bicycle laws after I got a ticket on one. Yes true story. Absolutely fight it.

We lost a driver at my work. Not sure why but he veered off the shoulder and rolled the truck into a tree, pinning him in. It took an hour to get him out and he passed a short time after that. Loaded with stone.

There are no parts pulled from the cab in those pictures. The only thing missing is the fiberglass hood and fenders. The steel box is bowed out in the center on both sides. There was a little more room on the drivers side as the whole thing shifted sideways on impact.

I honestly didn't know him But feel terrible. It was hard to see this truck. I took pictures to look at better later.

Hard to imagine yet it happens everyday. A few miles from here there is a big recovery service that gets trucks and motorhomes off I-81 in that same condition or worse.
