Gas and fuel prices.

I don't care if a person sets up an off grid system. We run quite a bit of solar power ourselves.
But too many people I've run into preaching wind and solar farms expect them to be somewhere out of their sight.
Have the government stick them in your backyard and things may appear differently all of a sudden.

Yep as of now no other form of energy is really viable.
I disagree nuclear as done in America is extremely viable, the issue at Three Mile island that started the paranoia that stalled the industry had less effect on America than either Chernobyl or Fukushima Daiichi.

While Nuke One 75 miles from my home has been quietly and safely providing power since it was commissioned.

We did have a nuclear incident in Arkansas that involved a missile silo and a socket wrench, Google Damascus Arkansas, but not at our power plant.

Gas prices in the PNW are going to take another hit. The Olympic pipeline is leaking again so they shut it down. This one is going to hurt in Oregon.

Diesel at my check station is already $6.25/gal. Regular gasoline is under $5/gal, mid and premium are over.

My preferred diesel station was $5.60 last fill up, but that was three days ago.

I refuse to have any currently available EV, but EV swapping a vehicle from my preferred era is becoming more and more attractive.

On the expense of wind and solar power,,, and the Strait of Hormuz… Once upon a time, firearms were an expensive toy, never to replace the trusty “two sticks and a string”, but eventually firearms began to become mass produced,,, and cheaper,,, so much so that the very cheap sort had to be banned; (suit yourself as to why cheaper firearms were banned)… Automobiles too,,, once too expensive for any but the wealthy, ultimately a car in every garage… Computers, cell phones, indoor plumbing; pick just about anything, and it was once expensive, too expensive,,, but time and mass production has an effect on cost… Personally, I’d like to have solar panels on my house roof, barn roof, chicken coop, and outhouse,,, and a half dozen wind spinners turning generators or alternators… Even better, reduce usage of all sorts of manufactured, or sourced energy…
Toss in a bit of micro hydro

The world energy crisis is a mess… It’s crazy what can happen when a plan doesn’t come together.

The “plan” is never about providing enough or cheap energy, the plan is about making money off providing energy,,, shortages and disruptions raise the prices and increase profits…

There's the hook. Every "green" project I've seen pitched is predicated on "meeting increasing demand", in other words "in addition to" rather than "instead of" existing production. One would think that reducing demand is a reasonable course of action, but the fact is increasing debt demands increasing growth to service it. We're stuck a debt loop, and all of our decision making is outsourced to the financial sector.

Brent crude is at $114.00/bbl. this morning.

This is why I believe Helen and Scott Nearing had things pretty well figured out.

Economic anarchy,,, barter, make-do, do without, DIY… The 1960’s and 1970’s found hippies “back to the landers” in great numbers studying the Nearings, reading The Mother Earth News, John Seymour,,, and countless others; (I still have all my books from then, and yet live under their influence)… Herself and I have lived fully a third of our 50 odd years together without a TV, indoor plumbing, electricity, and with only wood for heating and cooking… Even now we can still make do while disconnected to varying degrees… Phones and internet “bills” have become a chain we have not yet sorted out how to break, their value a constant discussion here…
