Heresy: The Guns Everyone Says You'll Love, But You End Up Disliking. Let's Hear From The Heretics!

I don’t care for Glocks, they perform well enough but I just hate the way they fit my hands. Wife likes them so there are a few here. I prefer the Beretta 92 it fits my hands perfectly.
I must have the same hands as you. I have tried a few glocks and they don’t feel right in my hands. The beretta is perfect.

Sheeeew dawg!

I kept shaking my head reading this, and thats the point!

Heres my firearms hot takes

Remington 870: Awful. Aaawwwwful. Ive had more bad then good, and even the good ones are still awful compared to a mossberg

(There! I said it! Lol)

Ruger MKIV: Something about the new takedown assembly makes the grip dig into the web of my hands and I cant do it. Its just a few milimeters off. Kills me because I really wanted to like it.

Im putting on nomex undies with a kevlar backer now.

All modern SA revolvers. Just...why? Exception...the ROA.
Cause, it's not a popularity contest, or keeping up with trendiness. They work, and work well, they do the job they were meant for, they're great outdoor/hunting guns.
Not everything is about shooting bad guys.
And you are correct about Ruger Old Armies, excellent guns. Mine dropped this doe at 75-80 paces for meScreenshot_20240206-154428.jpg

Ruger Blackhawk, yep not a fan. Well at least the 6 1/2” barrel model. Simply too much of a not so good thing. I’ve since replaced it with a 4 5/8” version which is in fact much better for my needs. Somehow I have convinced myself I should have a powerful revolver .41 it is, I got myself set up in .41 and I’m not going to be changing.

No, this does not make you a Comsymp. Czechoslavakia were always reluctant in their forced position in the Warsaw Pact. The Soviets never considered the Czechoslovaks ever to be ideologically pure.
As to William Ruger, as much as I disagree with Mr Ruger on the second amendment I have to admit that Ruger was a bastion of the capitalist system. So, no, I for one, do not consider you to be a commie. Do you happen to own a Budenovka hat? If so, the suspicion deepens....
Do I own a Budenovka hat?

Nyet!

Ok, I may be escorted from the site for the first and third ones, but;

1. Springfield Armory M6 Scout .22/.410. Horrible ergonomics, horrible trigger, just why? If I was a bush pilot maybe but then why not just pack something more useful that also comes apart, say an 870.

2. Sig P210 Legend. Gun rags of yesteryear professed the 210’s mythical properties of accuracy. The ability to put 8 bullets in one hole while blindfolded standing backwards with thumbtacks in your shoes. My Kimber Custom II .45 is more accurate and half the price.

3. Ruger Bearcat. Tiny, poor ergonomics for my grip, difficult to c0ck, tight chambers. No thanks.

4. Glock 18 (not mine, belongs to a police department). One mag fired, one time. Ridiculously fast cyclic rate, nearing uncontrollable. Single shots were impossible. I don’t even understand the purpose. I won’t be asking to shoot it again.

Glocks - I had a 26 that was dependable, accuracy ok but w/ ergonomics of a brick. Then I got a new 43 for a lightweight carry gun, due to unsupported chambers causing new ammo thing to blow up the *&^%$#@! nearly wrecked my hand. Glock replaced it but I took a new S&W revolver instead. I will never shoot, much less own another Glock of any sort. Remington 700 rifles w/ triggers that came in my shop that went bang when the bolt was closed unless the trigger was spotlessly cleaned often & pump shotguns that needed constant replacement of stamped out parts put them on the list of 'no Remington's'. Fanboys will probably fuss but I don't care, I'm not running for election.

I cannot tolerate the sound made by the recoil buffer spring -- right next to my ear -- with each shot. Muffs and earplugs are useless to stop or reduce it because its transmitted by bone conduction... :oops:o_O
The first time I fired an AR I heard the spring and it was very unusual. I’ve fired probably over a dozen since then and never heard it again on any other one from a variety of manufacturers. Not sure why the first one was so noisy, it’s been over 30 years but it was a full stock 20” Colt.

But I can do that just as well with a DA revolver (also thumbing the hammer). And eject all the empties at once. ;)

To be fair, I know a lot of guys who find no fault in their SA revolvers. I never could warm up to them. Never could shoot them well, so gave up trying. The thing is.... I feel no loss over it, because DA revolvers fill the role just fine.

The CAS crowd also have their reasons, which I accept.

As well you should…🤣

Bolt action sporters with detachable magazines; give me a floor plate any day (or even no floor plate over a detachable mag).

Scoped handguns with barrels so long they require a dedicated rest to shoot, Contender, Encore, X-frame S&W, etc.

Almost anything with a black plastic stock.

Tactical lever guns, um, yuk…

I'm with Troutfan 100% on the .22/410 Springfield M6 Scout, I've had some guns I didn't like as much as thought I would, some I liked more then I thought I would but only 2 have really disappointed me.

The M6 Scout is the one I can't find a use for, the .22 barrel is very accurate with sandbags, good sunlight and plenty of time, actually trying to shoot small game in the shadows of timber with the bad ergonomics and that weird excuse for a trigger, and odd front sight. The cylinder bore 410 is worthless much over 15 yards, if I use #6 or #4 shot the pattern is to thin, 7.5 shot just injures squirrels and they run off to die.

Only other gun that really disappoints me is the Ruger 10-22 I've bought 3 new and one of them works correctly with almost any brand of ammo and is accurate, the other 2 I wasn't impressed with accuracy and way to particular with ammo to even function.

Here's another - the whole G19X/G45 concept is brain damage.

We want a concealed carry gun, so let's make the part that prints out of the biggest 9mm frame we have. But wait, we need to make it smaller because we're going post pictures of this as a "carry rig" on Reddit, so let's make the part that doesn't print smaller and use a compact slide. Yeah! But it probably needs a chinese red dot to look cool, because that's what's really important, so let's make it bigger again. Can we add a compensator? At least give me a threaded barrel that I'll never mount anything on and the tallest sights in the universe.

The 26/19/17 paradigm is fine. The chopped 17 fad was grotesque but at least it was logical in the iron sight era.

Bonus heresy - Glock plastic sights are completely acceptable because I'm going to throw your factory sights away and use 10/8s or Dawsons. Increasing cost to make the things I'm throwing away more expensive isn't doing anyone a favor.

It is kind of amazing how many different variations of "perfect" we have seen. And I mean the in the most respectful way possible. ;)
