Hi 300Dman... I, "personally" would pass it up. An "off the shelf" BK2 is around $100.00 to $130.00. They are not as "sterile" as the one shown but I would guess that the functionality would be the same. This one looks like a "showpiece" knife so the decision to buy or not is absolutely yours to make. It very well may be an Ethan Becker Original (???) and worth the money if you are a collector. I use all of my knives "as originally intended" so I'm clueless about the collectors world! Take Care and Stay Safe... SAR-1 :42: :6:

I was not planning to buy it. I was just curious. I bought another knife from the same seller. My tactic is I put it in my watch list and see if the seller makes an offer. Which I did and the seller reduced the price, and I bought the knife. The sadness was the $15+ shipping and the $10 pulse tax which was nearly 1/4th of the purchase price of $101.
It does say make offer. If the offer is not accepted just pass.

Hi 300Dman... I don't know where you are located or if there is KaBar Dealer / Retailer in your area but if you are simply looking for a BK-2 there are a LOT of less expensive places to purchase the "Factory Stock" knives. Some online retailers don't charge tax and some offer "free" shipping. If this specific knife is of interest and you need to pay tax and shipping perhaps $65 to $70 would get it to you for around the $100.00 figure? If the seller is charging sales tax then he / she is most likely a retail business? Good luck with this one... rightly or wrongly, it throws up a "red flag" to me but I tend to buy locally whenever possible and I'm a "cautious" type of person anyway. Take Care and Stay Safe... SAR-1 :42: o_O

Do you have a link to the listing? I just looked and came up empty. I'd be suspect if the listing says the knife was assembled at Blackjack Knives in Effingham. Ka-Bar doesn't sell blanks (if they do it's rare) as I have inquired a few times, so the blade would have to have been used and the scaled put on it of it was assembles in some plant overseas.

Again, I am not looking for a BK knife. Also, the one in the ad if I read it correctly is not a Ka-bar. Next is sometimes older models are worth more than newer ones.

300Dman... good enough. I guess it was the "BK-2 Campanion" (which is the newer model from KaBar), reference at the beginning of your post that threw me off. Good luck in your search for whatever knife will work for you. Take Care and Stay Safe... SAR-1

WOW! Very interesting. I've read where the original Becker knives are in high demand. I'm hoping that someone "in-the-know" reads these posts and offers to authenticate this. A lot of the "historical" reviews claim these to be much better than the KaBar "versions", partly because the originals had solid tangs and the KaBar versions are skeletonized. I'm glad I'm not a collector because this one appears to be a "one-off" knife. Please keep us updated if possible. Thanks again... SAR-1 :42: :dblthumb: (PS: I know ZERO about metals used in knives other than what I read)

I don’t know anything about the history of the knife other than what came up when I searched. I’d be careful buying one like this because if an earlier Becker sold for that much in 2017 how many fakes are out there.

The first generation Ka-Bar BK2s were not skeletonized and did not have an exposed tang. I have three of the first generation and two of the second generation Ka-Bar BK2s. I prefer the first generation to the second generation.

The exposed pommel makes it easy to tell the first gen from the second gen.

Here's a comparison of the two with the scales removed. When I took this pic I was showing that the hardware for TKC G10 scales will not work with first generation BK2s. The hardware passes through the skeletonized cutouts in the tang.

One of my stripped first generation Ka-Bar BK2s. You can see the Ka-Bar stamp more clearly on this one than on the two coated knives above.

The first and second generation Ka-Bar BK2 sheaths were also different.

While its not an original Becker, I do have an untouched first generation Ka-Bar BK2 with the box and pamphlet. If someone offered me half of what that Becker sold for it would have a new owner. :dblthumb:

Notice the literature shows the "NEW!" Becker Campanion BK2 with no exposed pommel.

The BK7 and BK9 had the exposed pommel at that time.

Hi pab1... Very nice, concise and informative historical review of the BK2! Thank you for posting it. Old or "new" the BK2 is STILL (IMHO) one of the finest "cost effective" bladed tools that can be had. There a many good (perhaps even better) knives out there but the BK2 "won me over" as my overall choice. Thanks again for your posts. Take Care and Stay Safe... SAR-1 :42: ;)
