I don’t understand why someone doesn’t make a light handy single shot rifle either break open or bolt action in common CCW handgun caliber. Something like the Crickett or Rascal or the Rossi single shot rifles, upsized just enough to handle the loads. Would be a nice foraging rifle using ammunition that you already have on you

That's a good question.
I wonder what kind of velocity and energy you would get from a 147 grain, 9mm (.355) caliber from a 16" barrel.
I had to look, and found this.

A 124-grain 9mm hollow point fired from a 16-inch barrel typically achieves velocities between 1,250 and 1,350+ fps, producing roughly 430 to 500+ ft-lbs of muzzle energy. Standard pressure rounds (like 1150-1200 fps in a handgun) gain 100-200 fps in carbines, while specialized +P/+P+ loads perform best.

Performance Examples (16" Barrel Approximate):
Standard 124gr JHP:
1250-1300 fps /
430-465 ft-lbs.
+P / +P+ 124gr JHP:
1300-1350+ fps /
465-500+ ft-lbs.

I agree, I'd like a break action 16" barrel chambered in .327 mag that is light and breaks down easily.
What I actually have is a Cricket in .22 mag.
How do you like the Crickett in 22 mag ? I have been looking at them for a light just to have a gun with you option I have a Rascal and it a good little rifle

I like the Cricket for what it is, it's accurate and holds POA/POI better then my Savage .22mag, when shooting subsonic .22. mag, or .22 WRF.
I have 2 problems but they really ain't the fault of rifle, it's hard for me to see sights because I can't get low enough on stock in most positions I have fairly high cheekbone so others may not have that issue, and I have trouble getting 22 WMR loaded into chamber with my big fingers, 22 WRF is little easier since they are little shorter, since it's made for small kids I don't feel thats the rifles fault My head and fingers are just to big lol.

It is a very light easy to carry rifle, I sling it across my back when feeding cattle with tractor and don't notice it's there, I've thought about picking up another stock on eBay and see if I can heat it up enough to reshape enough I can get eye just a touch lower to see sights better. Right now I have a cheap 3/4 diameter tube .22 scope on it.

The 24 in different calibers/gauges would be awesome.

I picture something like the Springfield 120A, but in popular handgun or rifle cartridges. Heck, for a little extra maybe threaded for a supressor.

Also bring back the pardners and handi-rifles.

I get they werent super economically viable, but the world is a weird place without beater single shots hidden in random farm corners.

Henry makes a lovely single shot in .357 and .44 magnums. I wish they offered it in rimfire and .327 Federal.

I have a similar Henry single shot 20 gauge and it is a great gun, and has been a great turkey hunting gun and it looks good also!

I’d really like to see a Cricket rifle upsized just enough to take a 32ACP or 380. But the marketing ( and realistically the market) would keep increasing size and mass till it took 460 S&W, then it would have completely lost its appeal for me. That was the case with the Encore, and I am a TC fan. It just got too big for what I wanted. I have a Contender barrel in 30 Luger, pretty close to perfect, but a 32SWL was what I was seeking.

I ordered one today . I have a 22 Savage Rascal . I have wanted to try the Crickett too. I see they sell stock extensions now so I ordered a set with it

How about the Savage 219's, Win Low Wall's, Stevens 0-44 1/2's, Rem #2 Rolling Blocks (and the Navy Arms copies), the Martini Cadet's, and many others seen now and again on gun show tables that have been used for a bunch of cartridge conversions... or had second barrels made for you pet cartridge if you don't want to alter the original barrel...

I put the extensions on mine also, and for me personally I'm not so sure they make any difference, I was hoping that by extending stock I'd be able to get my eye lower, it didnt help.

I've thought about making a stock out of PVC pipe with little more drop, I think that would really help for its use I'd rather not have scope on Cricket I want it as small and lite as possible, given enough time while plinking or target shooting I can get my face twisted and mashed enough to shoot stock sights accurately, but when hunting them dang squirrels just dont want to wait on me contorting and twisting my face on stock, especially difficult when shooting up in trees.

Let me know how you like it, I suspect I have more difficulty getting my eye low enough them most folks. How much do they run now, probably been 10 years or so since I bought mine, I think it was right around $100 on sale at Academy,I had to order the 22 mag because they only stocked .22 LR.

At same time Academy had Winchester sub sonic 22 Magnum on clearance $1.00 a box, I snatched up probably 30-40 boxes, a lifetime supply for me.

I will see when it gets here. I just put a scope on my Rascal. I had the scope laying around it’s very compact. It’s an inexpensive scope. That has to short of eye relief for most guns. It seems to be about perfect for the rascal
