keeping your butt warm on a hunt

I've seen a cheap walmart heat a seat and was curious if these were any good. Sitting in a stand or a blind isn't fun when I can't feel my back side, especially in wind. What do y'all use?

The heat a seat is a good product. So is a sleeping bag up to about your elbows...

Take an old sleeping bag, get to your stand, step into the bag and pull it up as much as you want. It works.........

In my stand, and on my seat, lives a piece of 1 1/2” thick rigid blue insulation board, and I also carry an hundred year old Hudson Bay 3 1/2 point double blanket out to sit on,,, or to wrap myself in should the temps dive too low, or the wind get up....

I also have a piece of the same blue foam board for resting my boots on...

I use one from Academy. The coldest it has been here since I started using it is 30 degrees and my butt wasn't cold, I wouldn't say warm, but not cold.

Thermaseat traditional series.

We have many of these. Inexpensive. Thermally efficient. Comfy. You can fan a fire with them very effectively. If you place your butane stove on it when cooking in winter, your canister doesn't freeze to the ground. If you put your cookware on it in the winter, your food doesn't cool down as quickly. Great for keeping shavings off of the damp/wet ground when making a fire. You can cut improvised hearing protection from them if you make an unexpected stop at the rifle range.

I take one to sporting events, on plane trips, to office meetings/conferences, etc. One of my most trusted pieces of gear.

Good point! A lot of heat can go out the bottoms of your boots!

A few days ago I sat in the snow in about 25° F. Actually I tied a roll up foam sleeping pad to a cheap beach chair I got from the side of the road and sat on that. Just happened to be the same width. Butt didn't get cold, but my feet in the snow sure did.

I just use a plain ole closed cell foam seat. Just off the shelf item and never had an issue.

I do layer up when I am hunting cold weather. As an example, base layer of long underwear. If I am sitting and it will be cold it will be expedition weight long underwear. Then my regular camo or whatever clothing over that. A good jacket or coat and I am set to go.

Saturday will be hunting out of a blind so I will wear all black polar fleece

We have a Mr Buddy propane heated in every blind. They are money well spent

I've had good luck with the heat seats, but where I hunt doesn't get much below 30.

Always used a foam heat seat. They work pretty good. A few people I have talked to use the cheapo sleeping pads cut into sections and taped together.
