I took a good fall a week ago. Long story short, I tore my ACL and Meniscus and I go in for surgery on January 27. The Doctor suggested an Allograft, since I don't play sports etc. Does anyone have any advice or experience with this?

Back in '08, I had both of my knees 'scoped because my ACL's needed to be 'realigned' (my Ortho's words) and the joints cleaned up. At that time he suggested a Meniscus replacement using Allografts, or what he called '"dead guy's Meniscus". I opted out of that, though.

I presume the technology/procedures have progressed greatly in the intervening Years, so have no fear. I will say this; PT will be your best friend after the procedure, there will be discomfort and pain, but don't get discouraged. Stick with it and 'finish the Game'... in the end, you'll be just fine.

Good Luck! 👍 :)

Yea i anticipate a struggle with PT, then again im pretty stubborn (my wifes words) so im sure ill be fine. How long was it before you could get back to normal?

I know of 5-6 people at church had that surgery. Painful recovery.
This surgery now common as Lasix.
For me, any joint or arthritic injury heals within couple months by adding a pinch of borax to a glass of water every morning.
I've healed severe tear in shoulder humural? ligament this way with PT and elbow/forearm ulner nerve issues. Good luck.

I would be very mindful of injesting borax (sodium boronate) and of the difference between boron and borax.

I had both of my knees scoped at the same time, then shortly afterwards my Insurance ran out so I wasn't able to proceed with PT. I was the poster child for what you weren't supposed to do; the pain and the fear of damaging something mentally paralyzed me. It took me almost a year before I finally sucked it up, fought through the discomfort and started stepping normally. Although I gained the ability to walk again I'm feeling the effects my Ortho said I'd eventually experience. I have Arthritis in both of my knee joints and the aches & pains associated with it. I'm certain you'll do much better than I did. 👍 :)

Timely post for me. Pretty sure I tore some meniscus in my left knee 48 hours ago. It was an old injury that hadn't bothered me in a while, but got aggravated badly. Now I can't straighten my knee at all. I have an appointment for next week with an Ortho, but just trying to minimize movements until then. Very tender/sharp pain if I twist at the knee, try to straighten.

I agree.
Read up on how and why it (may)work(s).
I only speak on what I do.

You can pretend it works, and especially fool yourself. But every real study that accounts for placebo effect demonstrates that it absolutely doesn't work. Which is no big deal, except it's poisonous to humans.

Safety

Borax is not approved for human ingestion.

Oral exposure has been associated with gastrointestinal irritation, kidney injury, and neurologic symptoms at doses not far above what “pinch” users report.

U.S. regulators (e.g., U.S. Food and Drug Administration) classify borax as unsafe for internal use; it’s sold as a cleaning/industrial compound, not a dietary ingredient.

Bottom line: No proven benefit + known risk = not acceptable clinically.

@delkancott I only 'Liked' your post to acknowledge your Injury... Ouch! 😐

You might try RICE to alleviate any Swelling or Discomfort you might be experiencing... Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.

Good Luck with your Appointment & Diagnosis! 👍:)

Did I say 'ingestion'?
You read that wrong.

Hopefully it won't be anything major! Maybe just some rest and an injection and you'll be good as new!

Speaking of ice, I got my spouse one of these machines when she had her rotator cuff surgery (shoulder). The shoulder surgeon recommended it, and it worked great. But my knee surgeon said ice packs would do me just fine. You might call the doc to see what he/she recommends. If you need to order, it's nice to have a few days for it to arrive.

I found one of these second hand close to the house but I haven't tried it out yet.

I hope all goes well with your surgery. And the doc has you on the mend soon.

The flip side of that is what I did. I don't want to go into details until you are well into your rehab...

Got my MRI results today. Lateral Meniscal Bucket Handle Tear. So I sit here unable to do much, but decided to make some kindling.

Dang... Hopefully it all heals well however they choose to fix it. My surgery was pushed off due to Snowmageddon 2026. Which sucks because although I can get around, should things start to get hairy there's still quite a bit I cant do. Even going out to start the vehicles each day is going to be a challenge. But hey, we can get through this right?

Also, I really dig that knife!

Thanks. It’s a Ben Orford Parang. Took me years to find one and it is quite the awesome tool.

I have a consult Monday (unless snowmaggedon cancels it) but we already have a surgery scheduled for Thursday.

Not being able to do simple things like fill gas tanks before a snow event like this stinks.

Yea i dont know where you are located, but it looks like whatever falls is going to be here for a few days. But maybe the road crews in your part of the woods take better care ofnthe roads then mine. They do what they can, but simply are under staffed and underequipped.

I agree, it was ordeal, but I was able to get a few groceries (our weekly task, not panic buying) and get some gas. We have enough stuff put back to last through the storm and then some though.
