I have straw Resistol, felt Resistol, Felt Cuernos Chuecos (a Mexican brands.) that one was open crown and has a cut down brim and retro look.

My next wide brim hat will either be a similar retro looking straw cowboy hat or a wide palm leaf cowboy hat.

I really want a palm hat for fishing and the beach because while they may be hotter than the other types of straw they are more durable and you can dip them in the water. I don’t like worrying about my straw hat getting wet.

I’ll find one in person because my head is weird but this Stetson is on sale

I buy these second quality Stetson fedora from their outlet located next to the factory in Garland, Texas. These are some of my "working" hats meaning they are bashed, dusty, knocked about hats that see fairly daily, hourly use. One of the tricks that I learned from the old guys is to have a rotation of hats to give each hat a chance to dry and recover. 20260402_131656(1).jpg

In the summer when it's hot, I wear a GI boonie hat. If I'm working at camp, I will sweat till it drips from the brim. I can toss it in the wash and it's good as new. I keep one in my vehicle all the time.
The rest of the year, whether woods loafing or up at camp working around, cutting wood, or whatever, I wear either a red wool "crusher" or an Outback oilskin Grizzly.
