I carried the Tusker in its new sheath today on a resource hike. The sheath did its job and held it secure and I was able to pull it out without any issues. I came home and used it to make some shavings. The more I use it the more I love it. I've been using strictly scandi blades for several years now and I'm amazed at how well the convex grind works.

That turned out really well. Nice job

I believe it was @Stone who said to use spalted wood for a hearth. We had winds up to 40 mph a few days ago. I went on a suburban scavenge and located 5-6” 5’ long piece of sycamore. It was pre punk and when I cut a section and batoned it, I found some spalting.
I went to work making a couple fire boards and then put them in front of a fan to dry out.

I used my standard cedar spindle and spalted sycamore for the hearth. When I went to burn it in I had a bit too much pressure. Went down about 3/8”.

I cut a notch and lightned up the pressure. Got good dust and ignition. Light a cedar bark tinder bundle. Made a fire to char some makup pads in the hobo stove. More on that in the F&S thread.
